Looking for new tower PC

I need to help my parents get a new computer. I'd like to get them a tower as they already have a nice curved monitor. The old tower they have is like windows 7 or some shit.

What would yall recommend for a tower that just cruises the internet?

Tower? You mean the case only or everything else that comes inside it? All new hardware and software etc...

How powerful do they need it to be? How much do they want to spend?

Yeah the whole thing. Prob just plug and play. Not a separate component build.

Idk Id prob say $500-$1k?

Well Rom, I build mine myself but I think a better idea for you would be to go look at a Dell. They have some decent stuff which is the older tech but the prices should be there. Especially if they don't need a monitor.

You said "Tower" so I looked at this one first. Top of your price range but a lot of newer tech in it. W10 pro, i7-10700 cpu, Nvidia gtx super 1650, 16 gig of ram with a small 256 ss drive. You can also remove or add parts as you like.

I remember dell from back in the day. That one looks nice too. I'll have to see what they want to spend exactly. I usually tell them to not buy the bottom of the barrel for electronics.

I expect most people will tell you to build one yourself, because that's the mantra among the PC master race in online forums, but unless you use it for gaming, or have an interest in doing it, I'd just get a feel for their budget and what they want to use it for, then wait for Black Friday deals. Heck, for a lot of people you can just get one of those "mini" PC's that fit in your hand, then you just plug your monitor and other peripherals into it-they're like $100 or $200.

I ended up building my first ever PC for them. This is what I got for parts. I think it was about $800 in all. I used 2 old fans for exhaust as well on the back and top. I was able to salvage those from a really old build my brother had. It runs really well and pretty fast. I know my wire management sucks. Still waiting for prices to fall on my own build. Got a few things tho on my other thread.

For future ref, for something at that price point you are generally better off buying a random no name pre-built. That's what I did for my home theater PC. A few year ago it was like $550 similar specs, from NewEgg. Even came with RGB case lighting... I jest but the low pink lighting works nicely with the projector.

If you're looking to build a gaming PC it will be cheaper to build you own provided you can source the video card you want. Not a huge difference but you can get the exact parts you want and do some future proofing.

800 bucks for a machine running an i3. It’s not bad for surfing and nothing else however it’ll be outdated soon. Not to mention with windows 11 it’s going to bog that thing down. I would have went with a min of 32 gigs of ram at least. Either way congrats.

A couple years ago now I picked up a used PC from a computer store in Peace River. MSI Z170A Gaming Pro MB, Intel Core i7 6700K, (water cooled), 1T HD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 GPU, 500W PSU with 8G ram. Couple months ago added another 8G ram and just a week ago cloned my HD to a new SanDisk SSD Plus 1T drive. Blazing fast now. Loads Solitaire in 5sec flat!

$250. Some guy brought it in for some work and never picked it up so I got it for covering the bill. Don't like the case and still looking for a black box with a flat top like the one @Romulanman posted up there but otherwise it's worked perfect. Win10 Office Pro using Win10Privacy to cut off all communication with the mother ship.

This is the first PC I didn't build myself since '87.



Anyway, might find a good deal at a small computer store if there's any around. If they aren't doing anything extensive with it any decent rig will do.

I would ditch the tower, absolutely no need for one if they just want to surf the internets. Grab a cheap chromebook, plug it in to their peripherals, and call it a day!

Building your first PC is a lot of fun though, so congrats on the successful build!

I'm ultra tight in all aspects of my life. For the last 7-8 years I've had a refurbished HP that I paid 185 bucks for. It's just about to die, so. . . . . Couple three weeks ago my boss decided she needed a new PC, monitor and printer. I bought the old outfit for 200 bucks. It is a Windows 10, only 3 years old. The printer is an Epson ET-2750, just like the one we have already. So now I have two that I have to remember to print something in color every month on.
