So I had a bunch of seeds germinating in a pill bottle full of water. This pill bottle had a little weed dust in it still but was the only container I could find at the time. The seeds cracked and the roots started to extend. I didn't use distilled water, just simple tap water. When I took the cracked seeds out, I poured it into a bowl of water, I think I might have shocked the seeds with the temp. change, I dunno. I went to the hydro store and picked up some tree bark type cubes for seeds. The guy working there swore by them for all his plants. I tooks these and dipped them in a solution for rockwool cubes, also recommended. I figure soil has natural nutrients which a plant will need as it grows. I couldn't see what a rockwool cube would offer in that area. As of right now I'm still waiting to see any action from the seeds going right now. They are in a tray with a plastic cover in my closet. I don't have any heat source but my place is a nice 70 degrees most of the time.
My partner had some seeds going at his place. He had about 100 seeds in a pill bottle. He took some cold distilled water in the same method. When all the seeds were in the bowl I noticed the main roots had become tangled and some had broken off, I was thinking "fucking shit". I went over to his house yesterday to check up on them. All I saw was absolute shit. All of them were gone. They just had a bunch of fuzz over where the plant should be, total loss. They had been in those things for over a week and had been germinating for at least two weeks.
I realized that I need to be a hell of a lot more careful with this shit. I'm still waiting to see what happened with the stuff I personally have. I didn't wash my hands when I was handling the seeds, and I smoke cigarettes, could this have killed them off that easily that early? Given all of this do you guys think I need to start from scratch? I am currently in construction of a kick ass growbox, I'm sanitizing the shit out of that thing in the building process, this has gotta be crucial.
