Losing Leaves, Brown Spotting, Save My Medicine!

Hi all, newly legal medical patient

Four out of five of my plants are experiencing the same problem.

I have tried to correct with flushing, adding chelated Mn, switching back to only veg nutes...no results.

Grow specs

  • 4 Diesel ryder 47 days old and 1 lemon skunk 32 days old
  • 600w HPS on 20/4
  • Pro-Mix HP, Ionic nutes with Green Fuse micros @ 70% recommended dose, started at 50%.
  • 35% RH, 65-78F temps, lots of ventilation
  • Distilled water (possible Ca def.?)

The problem started on the 2nd or 3rd set of fan leaves as a bunch of brown spots. Then the leaf will yellow from the tip toward the petiole, brown spots and dead spots spreading the whole time. It creeps to the oldest fan leaves then to the bud leaves, killing them almost completely but usually leaving parts of the leaf alive.

It is now affecting 3 out of 4 diesel ryders. I thought it was an Mn def. but foliar application of chelated Mn did nothing. Then I thought it was calcium, but neither would affect the middle leaves first right?

Now I think its either Mg or a fungus but I need input.

Sorry my camera sucks. Pic 1 is a fully destroyed leaf, 2 is mid onset, 3rd late onset, 4th early onset with just the spotting.

Thanks for any help guys I need this stuff for my Crohn's :joint:

I have know idea how your testing your water.I bought a gallon of distilled water tested it with the droplets test. The shit had a ph of 4.People say distilled water always has a ph of 7.It took me buying just one gallon to find out it's a waiste of money.I see bud in your pic why are you on 20/4?

I just switched to tap. You may be right as the Lemon Skunk has terrible deformations on its leaves, shredding, twisting and stunting, which I read as a pH problem(?).

I have a water distiller so it doesn't cost more than a quarter a gallon to make, so I thought it would be better...softer water :?

20/4 was the breeders recommendation for this strain as they are autoflowering (Soma's NYC Diesel X Lowryder #2).

This is my first grow and I'm not completely equipped yet, no nice pH meter. I only have a soil pH test kit, which I don't trust. Are pH strips ok? A $60+ tester is not in the budget for this grow after all the start up expenditure.

Edit: Last plant is now developing the same thing...ugh at least it's well into flower

spend 5 bucks on a fish tank PH kit. The ones that use the red drops. They have them at walmart in the pet section.

no need for a fancy meter yet.

Bro,...your life will get a lot easier....as you probably have know idea what your real Ph is at.... these baby's like a nice steady level of ph....soil 6.3-6.8....:weed:

Good luck..

USE RO water. its perfect. its only 1.25$ for 5 gallons.... obviously u arnt on a large scale so its going to maybe coast you 5$ a month to get this type of water. secondly ALWAYS PH your water, after adding nutrients that is. secondly you shouldnt be using 20/4 even if it is self budding. the plant needs more time to sleep and build resin. u could be loosing THC because of this. the leafs doing what they are doing... well that could be a bunch of things.... but i would say that it might just a combo of nutrients and PH. lower ur nutrients back to 50% and make sure u keep the PH between 5.5 and 6.5

Okay, I got some fish tank pH strips and tested my tap and distilled with and without nutes. Distilled was 6.2 without nutes, god knows how low with them gah. Tap was 7.2 without nutes and 6.0 with them.

So that was likely my problem, the distilled was fine without nutes in it but with them it was probably below 5 pH... feasible conclusion?

I flushed the worst plants, am I back on track with just tap with nutes and distilled with no nutes?

Update:
The worst plant is now turning purple from yellow, and it is looking like a toxic buildup of salts, likely from all my experimentation trying to correct the first problem, which I am now sure is a Mg def.

I am having the same problem, and have already done the thing's you have talked about with no success! I hope there is someone here that can give some better advise. I am using RO water with a ph of 6.5 with and without nutes is where I keep it, They are lush and green in veg state but when they go to the flower stage they start this same process as shown in your pics. this problem just accuerd recentlly everything was fine until here lately, I have not changed anything in my feeding process but now I have had to reduce the amount of nutes and try to flush as much as possible. Fyi I did let a couple finish the flowering stage and dried and cured it, It was still workable medician but the taste and smoothness were gone. I have a cannabis garden problem book and it tells me that these symptoms relate to (MN) but you said you already tried that and it didn't work Bummer! well let me know if you find the cure and I will do the same if I figure this out. Good luck!

Thanks. After a lot of research, and the advancement of the problem, I concluded that it was salt buildup. That's why it occurs in flowering, after you have been feeding the plants for awhile. This is causing multiple nutrient deficiencies, most notably N and Mg. Oh and my pH didnt help
