I posted this in my grow journal and thought I'd post over here and see if I could get a few people to check for me.

These plants are allegedly 47 to 61 days old I could be 1 week off because I can't find my notebook!
Do they look ready to you? CC says they are done in 8 weeks (56 days). So I should be getting close.

that last photo shows it could go a bit longer, is that all of one plant?
Trics are WHEN. I've taken plants into amber, and the high wasn't near as good as cutting with mostly cloudy, some clear and amber(85/10/5). I've spent untold hours researching this, and even in this portion of RIU, it is pretty well scientifically proven, amber means degraded THC and a bum high.

Also, Trics change during curing.

  • The third state is amber. Amber trichomes contain degraded THC --> CBN. CBN represents a loss of 90% potency (from THC).
CBN is not desirable in any harvest, since it not only represents a huge loss of potency but research into the substance has also shown that CBN does not produce a high like THC does, CBN produces a more sickly feeling not a true high.

Yes those are one plant. But the other two are pretty much identical. I keep wondering. I have some that went 10 weeks and was good but I honestly can't tell how old these are.
The Trichs, Luke. Trust the trichs.:wall:
Cut it NOW!
Trics are WHEN.
Actually I think you/we are all using tricomes. But I think there's some wiggle room even with that. dbkick asked about the last photo and that is the trichomes. So I'm betting that was his estimate from what he saw. That's my problem. I keep LOOKING and LOOKING at the durn trichomes... I can't really tell for SURE all over they are roughly so I keep perseverating over this LOL. But I've always tended to harvest at 10 and I have 4 plants right behind so I think I'm going to start taking these guys down. They are most likely 7 or 8 weeks so I'll see how harvesting a tad earlier than usual works.

Thank you, very much for the I appreciate it.

So I figured the best way to tell is simply harvest a branch. See above. If you click on images 3 and 4 you should be able to see the tricomes. I didn't want to shove the digital microscope down on the buds. So I clipped the smallest bud and included one of the leaves on it.

What do you guys think of the tricomes?

Kinda hard to tell, the flash washed out a lot of detail, but the calyxes appear to be nice and plump. If the trichs are mostly cloudy with a scattering of amber, that's when I prefer to take 'em down. Now YOU might let 'em go a bit longer, if memory serves me you prefer a bit more couch-lock and pain relief, but they could be harvested now, no prob. Harvesting early in my experience gives me a li'l bit more heady high than a couch lock one. Is that your Bubba?

the fact that theres not a spec of amber trichs on the leaf pic u put up says it shoulda gone longer, IMO, of course, you know what u like best. but from what i saw, you had mostly clear trichs,

I stopped writeing down dates over a year ago. it's done when its done writeing a date down on a calinder isn't going to make it finish faster, the only thing it will do, is make you chop your plant too early.

Keep track of 12/12 dates. This guy is joking.

Your plant shows I'd say 30-35% clear, 65% cloudy/milky...
Wait...
Also, start counting when you first buds in your 12/12 room, not when you throw the switch.
4 stages of my plants-
stage-1 seedling/clone growing roots [1-3 weeks]
stage-2 Veg as long as you/I want [for me 4-7 weeks]
Stage-3 Converting from Veg to Bud [6-15 days] This is the stage that most leave out when the plant resets itself to bud-so most IMO harvest too early that do not check for Trics..
Stage-4 Bud [the time from first sign of bud -and not pre hairs in veg-until first sign of amber Trics] What I grow is 56 days

I don't see how you're seeing the trich color in those photos, I DO see white pistils and that is more of an indicator that it could go longer.

I'm with you( I see no amber trichs at all) but then I'm just a dumbass that has no idea wtf he's talking about. CUT IT, CUT IT NOW!

I didn't make the call because of the pictures. The OP posted the Tric percentages. If he's correct, I say cut it. I agree on the following pictures, but the flash from the camera may not give us an accurate view. When I'm checking Trichomes, I always have my wife give her opinion on color. Second opinions from a person who can look through the scope/magnifying loop is a good way to double check for "When".

I'd harvest that plant in stages, you can clearly see the lower buds are a good week or 2 behind your tops.

I FOUND my notebook in my late night meanderings. I flipped them on 2/4. So we are at day 48.

Hey Jack so good to see you. I'm honored to have to post on this. You are exactly right about the couch lock. I do prefer stoney. I decided the smartest thing to do was harvest the 4 colas on this one plant 1 week apart. Cure and label each cola and see what I like since I have 4/week coming up right behind and more I'm throwing in tomorrow. Every other Monday 4 more go in. It's a perpetual flower room now. So I can afford a little experimentation. This is my CC Pre 98 Bubba Kush, right again! What a memory you have.

I could see knowing my plant well enough that I wouldn't need a calendar. I need it less with my Aurora Indica females now. So I think when you have enough experience with your strains or just simply a real feel for growing. Yeah I think it's possible. Me personally I'm not even close to that kind of good, LOL.

Keep track of 12/12 dates. This guy is joking.
I agree for a beginner like me yes I couldn't function without dates.

Actually I'm a girl with pretty good color vision. The problem is the trichomes are so variable over the entire plant! So I'm going with pulling an arm a week on this girl as a test see where I like it the best.

Thank you guys, you are all so very helpful. I love RIU if not for all your support I'd be paying insane prices for crap or poison! Now I'm growing stuff I'm cautiously optimistic about! (How is that for hedging LOL)
