Lotta light question.

Im building my first grow place, and ive looked everywhere for the answer to the following problem.
I've read and have been told that light is most important, soooo i want to give my plants a LOT of light. I mean a lot.
I'll share my trademark idea (calling it FLO: full light orchestra):
Glass bottom, glass walls both separated from the real bottom and real wallas by about 15cm (6-7 in). In that space i want to fill it with vegetative-type and flowering-type lights wired to two different switches (for their respective stages). So now the plant(s) have light coming from below and the sides. My question is, would this be too much light? would that do more harm than good? I ask only because i havent seen anyone else do it.
Well thanks! I'm looking forward to some answers!!

Leave aside the heat, moisture and electric bill issue cause i got all that covered with another system.

the underside of the leaf has the spongy mesophyll exposed and the stomato. the top side of the leaf has the pallisade mesophyll. the underside of the leaf isnt used much in PS but rather in co2 uptake via the stoma

not sure if that would be good or not. intresting idea. seems like a lot of work. how many plants would you be able to fit in this special light box

The way i designed it:
Layers from the outside in:
  • Wood (cover)
  • Polystyrene (for temperature and stuff)
  • Reflective layer
  • Layer of all the lights (walls cieling and floor)
  • glass (only necessary on the bottom i suppose

I hope you can picture it...
About the size... it will be appoximately 1-1.5 square meters (10-17 square feet).

About the stoma comment: I know most of the photosynthesis takes place at the top but its only MOST of it. And also light does go through the plant anyways and it can penetrate to those nasty spots where, if only the top light is present, get a lot of shade. But the thing is... do you thing this (rather large) investment of money and work make a significant difference?

That is all

Thank you for your comments and replies! and sorry for my english!

i think thats a bit over kill! how many plants do you plan on growing? what kind of light source do you plan on using, T5's and CFL's, bc if you use anything more then that, your problem will become temp. you wanna maintain a temp between 75 and 85. im using a 400 in a tent that has ac ran to it and a air cooled hood and it stays around 80-82 degrees, then outside the tent im running 2 100's and that stay around 82-84 degrees with 2 ac lines ran...the temp will be an issue. just my opinion. also your going to need good wind circulation, if you have it mainly closed in then thats another problem.
in my opinion, thats over kill, some people use very minimal lighting, like CFL's and grow great MJ, may not be the quantity that they want, but it gets the job done.

I know the temperature will rise quickly with that many lights but.. I have an sodium/co2 cooling system that can be regulated to reach just that temperature. About the air circulation i was planning on using 2 or 3... 4inch fans with an intensity regulator i can get for 8 bucks in DX..
I know what you mean but pearl so your final opinion is that its not going to be worth it?
Thank you for replying!!

i think you are overdoing it my friend. dont comlicate it more than you need to. just grab up some nice HID lighting (whatever you need for the amount of space your growing in) and grow some weed.

people comlicate shit way more than it needs to be (no offense)

Hehehe thanks matt, but understand that its the challenge that makes it that much fun. I do need opinions though, since there are lots and lots of people in this forum that hold a crapload of info in their brains and can tell me if they think its worth the hassle.

Yea id say it wouldnt really be worth it. millions of years of evolution and not during one of them was the sun on the underside of the plant :P

yea man, but its up to you, give it a shot, start a journal and show everyone! could be interesting. theres a million ways to do this, you may have found a better way, give it a shot. are you on a budget, if not, grab a few cfls or a t5 and have a back up plan going at the same time. couldnt hurt

It is done then.

I'll start at the end of january. It shall be done, and it shall be done with a journal. By that time it will all be set up. Stay tuned and stoned.:blsmoke:

I actually mean by that time i wont be on a budget.

One question though Pearl, by t5 you mean the fluorecent or led t5?
