Loving DWC!

I started DWC in August as a side hobby to make use of some equipment just laying around. After a few weeks in veg I saw amazing results in a 27g tote so I decided to go a little bigger. Made a custom rdwc system and loving it. All I can say is too easy. How are my plants looking to you guys?

105 day veg, day 12 of flower for the single DWC plant. Day 23 for the multiple site system.

Dude that's awesome! Iv got a little 3 plant dwc in 18 gallon totes. first time, iv only done one in a 5 gallon before, but am also loving how easy it is. I'm going for like a 60 day veg on day 21 right now.
How much did u pull or expect to pull from that beast?

Out of the people that have seen the plant they say anywhere from 16 to 24 ounces of bud. It is a pheno of sugar cookies that doesn't yield much in soil but bushes out like a beast. Turns out she really loves hydro though. I could only imagine the yield if it was my LA Con or Mendo o_O

Nice grow but why 100 something day veg......i think personally you could have maximize your grow with a scrog but it's way to late for that. What lights do you have over it? Kudos to you but I just can't justify vegging for 100 days

Do it! Amazing results and its soooo easy. No more watering all the time for me :) I just use Cyco and Roots Excelurator. I have tried many root products and nothing has worked as good as this does.

I didn't want to veg her past 41 days actually. When I gave her a shot of Grow XL she blew up over the course of a few days. By that time I had the SCROG screen built she was just too big... Her stems were so thick at the screen level that they were breaking when looping them. I was about to flip her to flower but then I wanted to finish the bigger hydro system first as it was taking up my main flower room. I ran into problem after problem building that thing that it ended up taking a long while to finish when factoring in work and parenting. So needless to say I just kind of let the plant go for awhile, and it was just kind of a running joke with my friends to see how big I could get it.

I have two small 600s and a 1000w Raptor equally spaced apart, and the plant just gets moved around in the footprint to get light everywhere through it. The thing is a jungle. If it would have got hit with mites it would have been game over. But thankfully I killed those little f***ers on the first try :)

what are you using to keep your res cool man?
I've been wanting to go with DWC - have coco with blumats - just dunno a cheap way to keep the res cool. On a pretty tight budget.
Roots are looking perfect btw :)

I have a 1/4hp chiller for the big system and frozen juice bottles (thick plastic so it doesn't crack after freezing and thawing many times) for the big boulder plant. To be honest, I don't change out the ice nearly as much as I should and she is still fine. Realize that a 1/10hp chiller would easily do the job and is actually more efficient at cooling then the juice bottles. It will run a couple hundred bucks but even after one harvest you make your money back on electricity saved and increased yield.

Unreal just makes me want to start DWC right now are you doing a water change or are you just topping up... ? please make sure you keep us posted i want to see this girl finish
I usually drain and clean the system every three weeks, although I could get away with longer. When the water gets low I just top off, but I have top feed going 24/7 so it keeps the tops of the roots moist when water level drops. After each cleaning i do my full cyco line up.When ever my nute ppms are down to half what I fed it, then I only use A+B to bring the ppms back up to normal. One time I wasn't paying attention and the ppms dropped to 200, and I still don't have a yellow leaf!

DWC is the way to go if you're after results and simplicity. And if you're lazy like me, you don't even have to do water changes OR top up. I used to just let the plants drain the bucket dry, then just fill up from scratch. Never checked ph after initially setting it, and never once checked ppm. Plants and roots still did just great.

DWC rules! So damned cheap to grow that way, no worry about buying big ass bags of soil and all that lot :)

(oh, and while in hydro everytone sais sterile sterile sterile, i call bullshit on this, my totes were always filthy (lazy remember) and it never effected the plants)

It may seem redneck, however if you're running RDWC like I am, you can put a frozen 2 liter in the heart/res with another one always ready to swap places. It seems like a cheap, stupid method, but it worked when I had to make it through hell of a rough summer and didn't have 300$ to throw down for a chiller...also, cool air blowing directly on your buckets and allowing your air pump to suck in cold air from outside/an ac unit in summer can really help as well...more than you'd think.

P.S. If you have pythium problems, sterilization IMO was never very effective...I caught pythium 2 weeks even using H202. However, I bought hydroguard and didn't only see an explosion in root growth, but a total stop in any form of pythium...I think anyone using DWC should investigate using bennies...although Hydroguard is all I've used, I think it may be one of the best products with bennies you can buy...you could always make compost tea...

*EDIT* I meant to quote the person asking about maintaining water temps, sorry DirtyNerd!

Nice Grow! I just started an rdwc project myself and am loving it! I'm running Lucas formula (GH micro and bloom) with cal mag and Hydroguard. Loving the hydroguard btw. Roots are exploding too.

I have to ask, in your image of the roots, the black spots, are those root aphids by chance? I have not seen any in my grow, but friends have mentioned them and said they look like black fleas on the roots. I've been told they can be a bitch to treat. Love the roots!

Nah technically not root aphids. At the end of summer some gnats from out back got in my grow room. I had a hole in that lid for a couple days as I was trying to put a clone in it. I didn't put duct tape over it like I should have and a few flew down in there :(. But the problem is resolved as of now. I get freaked out by bugs big time!
