I like to keep humidity low, 20-30%, because it helps with algae and mold. I live in Texas, so it gets really hot here, and that combined with high humidity can really screw up my hydro set up. High humidity can also be a problem in cold climates, as you'll get condensation and the resulting mold then, also. If I were growing in a greenhouse, rather than my spare bedroom, I'd probably strive for humidity levels of 40-50%. As it is, I have to keep things closer to the ambient humidity of my house. The plants still do quite well and don't show any signs of drying out. Of course, you have to water them more, but that's not an issue for me.

My humidity only goes to around 28% at the highest - haven't had problems with my vegging plants at all. Temps are much more critical.

I aslo have a lower than i'd like humidity level for vegging 30ish%. The humidity is suppose to aid in "sweating" the plant which help growth. I personally spray or mist my plants daily with a spray bottle. maybe 3 times a day. - Either way my plants have done great in the sub30's as far as humidity levels go.
