Low-tech CFL Grow

I planned on going 3 weeks before planting in a larger container, but I see a tiny root starting to come out of the drainage hole... so would doing it now have any positive/negative effects?
If the root is coming out, yes repot.

cool thread man....nice little set up you got there...keep posting....

Just curious...once they pop out of the soil and are like half an inch high, how close should the light be (6500k cfl) ?
Within a couple of inches. CFLs need to be close.

I just watered alittle while ago, so I will wait till the soil is drier (about 12 hours from now) and transplant into an 8" (1.6 gallon) pot.

You can't go out and get a bigger pot? Apparently fabric pots are big now. I've been using them a while, a 5 gallon one is pretty cheap I think...or a 3 gallon. I just don't think you want to be transplanting so much.

Question regarding the "burnt" leaves. Should I trim them back, trim them completely off, or leave them be? The rest of the plant looks great.

czechmate, you seem to be the right person who has exp. with CFLs!

my grow tent 48 in. tall 24 in. wide and 48 in deep.

Looking to hang either CFLs or t5 HO flo on the top. The CFLs will be hanging horizontally as I have read that the light from CFLs comes from the side rather than top. If I use T5, then I will use 4 ft 8 tube 400 watt. I will raise plants rather than lower lights keeping top of plants 1-2 inches away.

Then looking to hang t5 HO florescents vertically on one wall (these will be 4 ft, 8 tube-400 watt) keeping plants approx 1-2 inches away from that wall.

Then looking to dangle a few CFLs on the other side of the plants approx 1-2 inches away from side of plants.

I will have 3-4 plants in the middle or in between one wall of lights and the dangling cfls.

I will switch out the bulbs when flowering...but

do you think that my lighting will work all throughout the grow period? For veg and for flowering?

i'm not czechmate but i think you got enough light for the whole grow . Use mostly 6500k for veg and mostly 2700k for flower. and remember cfls do put out heat, especially when closed off in a tent. my 12 26w cfls would bring my tent 95-99 with a fan blowing on them and no exhuast.

thanks fresh money.

I will be adding exhaust system and at least an exhaust fan. I'll take it step by step to see if i need an intake fan. Basement grow...nice and cool down there!

Since I have your ear, what about fans and blowers? Static pressure? computer fan? any thoughts?

computer fans are too small. I only have a 10" oscillating fan inside the tent an a 8" holmes blizzard jr taped on top of my tent exhausting the air out. my exhaust is 7" so it sits perfect in there and my temps are now 79-81F. it was only 12 bucks and it works great fro a exhaust at the moment creating negative pressure.

Grow Virgin, I think you have plenty of light. And I agree with freshmoney on the fans, I also use a Holmes 8" fan.
