LST method in GrowFAQ

Hello,

Well, I think I have read and re-read every single article in the GrowFAQ. As a "newbie", I thought it would probably be my best bet, as opposed to posting things like "Yo dawgz, I wanna grow madz chronicz. How does be I doin dat shit fo real" or whatever some of these kids are saying. The article that kept coming back to me was the "Low Stress Training 101", which was under an anonymous (or uncredited) author.

If I decide to go forth with a grow, LST would undoubtedly have to be at the forefront of my technique, as I am growin in a 45" high space, and want to run an HPS (as I have posted before, I don't want to half-ass this, and will probably go with a 400W, with a cooltube and plenty of ventilation). In the 101 article, the author describes a technique that wraps the main stem of the plant around the pot, tying down the main stem and all of the node branches. The author states that with this technique, you can make a sea of colas, yielding an incredible amount on a small plot of real estate.

Does anyone have experience with this method? Is it as simple as he/she states, or will I have to FIM along with my LST? FIMing seems to be controversial from what I have read, and even if it is beneficial, I don't know if I feel comfortable with doing it on a first go. I would love to hear any input on this, as I haven't seen any posts about this method (LST 101)which seems to be the sliced bread of marijuana growing. If I would be better off with a ScrOG, either with clones or with similarly treated feminized seeds, I would be willing to consider that as well. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
S-Town

if you got 45inch of hight space that is really small even with lst depending on strain your reflector or cool tube will already take up 1 ft of space then comes the in between plant and light spacing then plant height. you can still do it but remember a plant when flower will stretch a bit indica stretching double its size or none at all as some say, and sativa is just out of the question.

Yes, I know all of this. I suppose I have made the original post too long, and my question is a bit disguised. Has anyone tried the LST method that is in the GrowFAQ under "Low Stress Training 101"? It is the one where you make a spiral like arrangement with the main stem going around the pot, rather than just random branches.
Thanks

The minimum height for a scrog assuming you are using a hid is 39.5 then scroggin' which is I think probably more developed as a technique for maximizing yield in your space would serve you better.

But scrog is pretty labor intensive and of course dependent on your own persoanal proclivities!

Im sorry in advance cause I know you want answers about LST. But ScrOG is basically LST with chicken wire. Its incredibly simple but yes a little labor intensive. But then again anyway you do it is gonna require garden time. ScrOG was thought of specifically for people with vertical and light limitations. I suggest you look into it.

As for LST, you could look into super cropping too. That helps with height.

i have done many times what you are asking, in short, as the plant grows i will bend it down even with the container then as the top grows i bend it over and tie it down. in essence what you are doing is growing it laterally instead of vertically, keeping the axial top below or even with the top of the container as the plant grows. what this does is turn each node into a cola.each flowering site is now growing straight to the light instead of being covered up.

Yeh I would say for your first grow I would LST, as in tie down your plant as omri is saying. I had a fruit spirit that grew to be 3 feet tall and only ended up with 15 dry grams (using cfls). Then I had a northern lights auto and got 24 grams out of a 1 foot plant. It is well worth it and probably the best and simplest way to gain significantly on your yield.

You can make a plant yeild a lot and only be a foot and a half tall using lst this is my og kush #18 I lst like he'll and she is barely a foot and a half and I'm expecting probably 6-8 oz, it's 19 days into flower and under a 600 watt hps
