LST question

Hello all,

recently some of you helped me on a thread
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/580288-help-advise-needed-cfl-indoor.html

I followed your instructions, read a post about how to LST in this thread:
https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/94640-super-lst-step-step.html

and I have one question, my plant is doing not bad, it reached the end of the pot, but since spaces between nodes are very short by the time it reached pot edge it has 14 new shots coming up and I am thinking should I continue on LST'ing it around the pot(as advised in tutorial) or should I FIM it already, if I would FIM it right now it would have around 16-20 main shots, if I would continue on LST'ing round the pot with those short nodes it would make maybe even 80, but is 3 gallon pot capable of growing that many tops? I kind of thinking that I should FIM it already and invest all the time and energy in growing the ones I have (14 or 16 plus the ones I would get from FIM'ming) and forget about the going round with it idea as in step by step LST tutorial.
What is your opinion on this?

Thanks
sim

P.S. I am not in a hurry to harvest it, I want to train it for the best outcome(get proper amount of shots), then veg it a bit, train those new shots so the light could get to all of the shots, make a nice and neat bush and then put it into flower.

I am vegging it now with 1cfl 25w 6400K, 1 LED 18W 6500K and 1cfl 30W 2700K because of her small height I keep the distance like 1 inch between lights and plant. So far theres no even a way to add additional cfl because lamps are surrounding the plant, but in a week when shots will become bigger I am going to increase a distance to 3 inches and add one more 25W 2700K cfl. When I will put her in flower I will switch to 3x 30W 2700K cfl and 1 25W 2700K cfl. Not much I know, but I am physically limited to that kind of lighting.

You're flowering with CFLs. OK, you'll have to keep her very short and very wide because CFLs have such limited penetration of the canopy. Any shoot, or branch, that gets more than 6" tall has to be pulled down to the side of your planter with a tie of some kind. I use pipe cleaners, some use twine or string.

If you're doing LST, Fimming is not necessary. Find your own path.

Thank you smokinrav, I will do my homework on LST'ing any shots so I could get as much light as possible to the plant, I have seen a lot of people managing to grow a plant with 100W of cfl, of course smaller yield than with hps lamps, but anyway a successful grow. Now the question still remain unanswered. How many shots I should aim for in this particular situation, how many shoots this one strain can handle, I could make 80 of them, but then they would not grow and give me proper buds because it would be too much for one plant, due to the light, pot limitations, so I would like at some point FIM or TOP it and take care of those branches I managed to get and not go crazy with number of branches and in the end fail to grow all of them...

Please help me to come up with a plan :)
Thank you

as long as you give her what she needs nutes-water-light etc in the right amounts. she can support how ever many tops you can make

Nice, thank you guys, then I will go round the pot then, since time is not a factor for me :)

also what would you suggest, should I keep fan leaves once the shoots are like 0.5-1" long? or can I trim them? I read that fan leaves are energy, but they are blocking light and it's a bit messy with them and I would like to make it nice and neat..

I would just tuck until after bout the 3wk of flower..Right now the plant is using the fans for energy to grow the branches.. Once in flower and stretch is over, it doesn't rely on them as much cause branch growth is done.

Please read about photosynthesis and the inverse square law. The leaves do not "block light", they absorb the light in order to grow the plant. Removing or tucking large fan leaves to get light to smaller leaves lower in the plant is counterproductive. Cover the entire top of your plant with fan leaves if you can, ffs.
