LST : Stems Cracked

Did some LST. Now I have some stems cracking.

Has been 1 week since LST. Do things like this heal over time, is there a way to help or fix this crack?

Thanks.

Just tape it up, that will help support it and it should heal. That's not a very big crack, it will probably heal without any help.

Any tape will do. :bigjoint:

From the one pic you showed it's a little hard to tell but my initial reaction is that there is too much pressure being put on the stems from the strings. If the plant is healthy overall it should recover, but in the future you might consider less pressure and starting earlier when the plants are just a few inches tall.

Like golddog said, I myself had a crack just like it and it healed just fine. I was freaking out and was afraid of using a wrong tape or doing it wrong and ended up doing nothing. When I lst now, i try to massage the area that will be lst'd by bending gently in different directions, with my fingers on one side of the stem, and my thumb on the other side, pushing opposite directions, but keeping the fingers there to make sure I do not push or bend too hard.

looks very minor, it should be fine. :-P
i dont like tape cause its hard to remove after. what i do is wrap a very small piece of paper around it, then tape the paper. the tape may stick to the stem too much. this way only the paper is touching the stem. the stem's broken area will swell and form a knot. it will be even stronger when it heals. should only take a few days to heal.

I broke a stem about 90% off, and it came back to be my biggest bud. I think a lot of people have similar experiences to me.
I didnt try and mend it at all, however I didnt train that branch and let it be.

I agree most any tape works, I prefer electrical for its stretchiness. If you don't take it off it doesn't seem to constrain the branches growth.

I bend plants a lot too, it happens.

One thing is to remember you can take a few days to bend it, bend it a ways, then again the next night, and again. Doesn't have to be done in one fell swoop...

Great tip on the electrical tape! Appreciated.

Also brittle stems are a sign of potassium deficiency.

Yea I’ve really come to rarely remove it as it just seems to stretch.

On bending in general another couple ideas:

I’ve bent some 1”ers before- another trick I’ve used is wrap the area I’m bending w some wire that holds its shape- not loose but not crazy tight then bend and it supports the bend- kinda like a spring on a hose end keeps it from kinking- it prevents the snap... tho it should be removed once the girl is relaxed in her new shape.

Also if you know ur gunna do it time it to dry her out a bit- not bone dry wilting but as close as you dare- the lack of water pressure in the stems makes em bend easier as they are less “brittle” than when they are fully watered and fully “crisp” w water pressure. I’m sure pressure is not the right word but u know what I mean.

Also have found taking electrical tape and taping a branch I’m bending around where it splits from the main around the branch and the main for a few inches prevents a full split off the main as you bend it as it relieves that pressure from where it branches off...

If the plant is small- quality balloons like clowns use for animal making work great as the elasticity can pull a branch slowly over a couple days and u can just keep tightening it...

My girls usually look like big bonsai trees by time I’m done :) so in the process I’ve snapped, broken and busted a lot figuring this out:)
