Hi

Sorry for spelling it wrong most likely

My mates lumitek 640watt led light has a problem the ballast shit the bed and I'm looking to find out what ballast will work. I can't take the ballast appart properly as they fill the gap in the plastic case with plastic or something to the point it's nearly welded to the inside of it. Waiting to hear back from the customer service department. If I don't need to send it back I'll try peel everything away and find out but I thought I'd ask you smart people

Drivers are potted in epoxy to additionally protect (waterproof) them and to secure the coils in place so they can't be shaken loose.

Don't those Lumatek's come with a five-year warranty? They haven't been aroud that long – just return it.

It's the 5th light to be taken out by a grid over voltage

Ah, user error. But still, most drivers have over-voltage and short-circuit protection so I'd still try to claim it under warranty. Lumatek isn't going to know. But if it's your fifth light then I guess that would be hard to explain!

I doubt youl'll be able to repair it because the potting compound is a bastard to remove without damaging other components. We have a Mean Well driver at the shop that a customer tried to repair himself and he didn't get very far trying to remove the potting compound. He could have saved himself a lot of hassle by simply returning it under warranty. We've had at least half a dozen Mean Wells fail over the years.
