~~~~ALL PICTURES WILL BE ADDED SOON, BARE WITH ME~~
8pk Biodegradeable Seed Growing Pots - $1.50
2pk Mini Spiral CFL (i think i bought wrong kind) - $6.00
1bg Mriacle Grow Poting Soil - $5.50
1bg Gro-Fine All Purpose Flowering Plant Food - $5.00
1roll AlluminumTin Foil (should have mylar i know, read title) $1.50
This is my first ever actualy attempt at growing anything. I dont want 2 or 3 plants...i just want 1. Male or female, preferably a female, and try to figure out the process of growing, its actually a gateway-hobby....started with pot, now i want a garden etc,*think the jalopeno plants will add nice scenery with a marijuana plant*
The light currently in the fixture is just a hologen light from a motion-sensor outdoor light system
I have some Solar engized lights i think if i could keep good light on throughout the day, might do good for growing.
The pot with dirt in it next to the biodegradable seed pot placed in a supplement container...was my germination pod...didnt work well,
left seeds in a plastic resealable Folgers Coffee containers with half full of dystilled water, soaked seeds overnight, most sank, sinking seeds were thrown into germ.pot, very noob-like and anyways, many died, many are jus seeds with stems that dont grow...etc..
the current sprout is actually a seed that i half germinated and forgot about and had turned shit brown and crusty, thought was dead..figured would make good fertilizer for future prospects, it came back to life and there it is. A popcorn seed didnt do anything and then a purple legged demon showed up, grew fast....died today....halogen lights....remember? blah
any advise? words or pointers?
so grow was a no-show do to uncontrollable weather circumstances,.....snow blanket in central texas...wow...long story short, got cold over night, too cold....froze..literally...dumb me tried to keep a smallbit of water on/in the soil at all times, maybe to thicken the roots.....anyways, its froze the water...and miracle grow so was a frozen miracle cube.....patent? anywho...yea, next attempt in progress, got a 400w HPS, ironically the store said they keep them for the city, and dont sell balasts....so fuck....anyways, now when i get some spare change i can set aside for a ballast, hopefully it will be warmer then...i love snow...but damn...miracle sickles?....damn...
get your hands on a fluorescent, halogen is the worst type of light next to incandescent. Most homes have CFL's stored in the closet anyway, its the energy saver spiral bulbs. Uses much less energy and is much better quality light.
basically just stick to the basics every feeding when u water set theph to 5.5-6.5 and set the nutreients to about a teapsoon of nitrogen throughout vegg period that should keep you set untill it getts big enough to produce budd
What up, ninja.
You're on the right track. Here's a good setup for a low budget grow (aka my setup). Buy some shop lights with clamps and reflectors, just the cheapos they sell at the hardware store that people use for reptile cages. Hardware stores also have y-sockets in the lighting section with all the other sockets and crap. They're only a couple bucks each and well worth it. If you go with y-sockets, just yank the reflector off the shoplight if it gets in the way.
Buy some mug hooks from wal-mart or wherever. They're about $1 for a pack and useful as all hell. When your seedlings are small you can just clamp the shop light on the rim of the pot. But if you want you can screw some of those mug hooks into the wall next to your plants. Then just hang the clamp from the hook and move the light up or down accordingly. Easy as hell, and it allows you to position your lights EXACTLY where they're needed.
As for your earlier comment on Popcorn, I lived in LA for about four years and all the dispensaries had popcorn and hindu as separate strains. I think the sight you read may have been a little inaccurate. Usually popcorn is just an idiom used to refer to fluffy, airy buds. The kind that appear to be dense but don't actually weigh much. As far as my personal experience tells me, Popcorn is a strain all it's own.
Good luck! Subbed!
EDIT: The way I would upload from my phone is either connect to my computer with a USB cable and just find the photos on the phone's memory, or just upload to photobucket if your phone has mobile internet. If you've got an android phone you can download the photobucket app and link your files from there, or save them to your computer and upload to RIU directly.
thats some true stuff, to be 100% with you, i havent even thought of how imma hang the lights, all the CFLs have lamps, or lamps on clamps, lol, but idk wtf imma do with my 400wHPS, or any further prospects
as of right now i have 3 CFLs 1 is a soft white one, dont know if it will work but we will see, others are 26w 6500k daylights,
blah, im still catching on the germing and sprouting part lol, im still learnin and its not really ever been hard to start a plant, now its terrible, i think the water method and the paper towl method are good if you dont have the right conditions, but shit, i jus throw a seed in the dirt, likejohnny pot seed, and it jus happens, think imma recert back to nature...let sunlight and dirt and water germinate and sprout my seedlings, and what ever and what not
Yeah, but it's a little chilly to plant outdoors right now, even in TX. I would wait until march to try outdoors. Germing in a paper towel is recommended just because you know the seed is going to sprout. Less time wasted watching a pile of dirt, more time to dedicate to plants that will definitely start growing.
The way I hang my HPS is pretty simple. I just bought some lengths of chain and a some of those clips people use for rock climbing rated for the weight of my light. Then I just hooked the chain on at the right length and looped the remaining chain links back up on the hooks it was suspended from. I just can't trust those yo-yo hangers. Metal chain > string.
Check out the orange link in my sig. It was my first grow and I was just as nervous, but I ended up getting about 1.5oz from two plants, all under CFL. I started out with only 6 bulbs, but quickly moved up to more. The great thing is: you can buy more bulbs and lamps as the plant grows and it still won't cost much.
If you want to shoot me a message I can e-mail you a PDF copy of Buds For Less. It's pretty much a day-by-day journal of a super-low-budget grow. It was written by one of RIU's regulars, so you know it's good and it really covers all the bases for new growers. And it has a pretty easy DIY CFL fixture design in there to boot. The dude basically grows 8 oz of bud in about 60 days with a super cheap CFL setup. Very inspiring and informative.
