So I took some more macro photos. I had a lot of people asking me how they were taken so I'm going to do a quick synopsis.
I use a Canon Digital Rebel XS camera. I took over 100 shots to get this one pic, thank god for digital. I'm using the Canon 18mm-55mm image stabilized lens that came as part of the kit. I also manually set the white balance to compensate for the HPS light color.
I'm shooting free hand and manually focusing which is causing a lot of blurry shots, even with the image stabilized lens. I'm going to try and rig up some type of support and see if that helps.
On the front of the lens I'm using a set of close-up lenses that screw onto my standard lens. These can stack so I get +1, +2, +4 and x10. I just ordered a x20 lens tonight because I'm still not getting as zoomed in as I want.
All the photo's get shrunk down to 800x800 max for uploading but I'm listing the original dimensions below each photo.
This is what the original photo looks like. Nice photo but I'm looking for really zoomed in.

I use Google Picasa 3 for viewing/cropping/exporting. I also own Photoshop CS2 but for stuff like this, Picasa 3 is perfect, plus it's free.
I then select the area I want to focus on and crop the image.
This gives me my close-up

Trichs still look mostly clear but I think some are starting to cloud up.
