Why does everyone get so horny about adding Cal/mag? Lmao
Do not add cal/mag unless you are one of those guys that buys reverse osmosis water for the plants. Cal/mag is present in most tap water and spring water. Adding extra will cause potassium lockout.
My tap is 19mg/l calcium and 1.5mg/l magnesium.
Magnesium is low, calcium is adequate. Adding magnesium once in a while won't hurt you. There is most likely magnesium in your medium though Since you've just transplanted so don't add any yet.
In fact I would just keep going. They're pretty small to start being hit with shit.
We ask for multiple reasons including people unnecessarily giving it. Basically it's used too much unnecessarily. Calcium is the major offender in most cases of lockout. Why does everyone get so horny about pH right off the bat? That's the question we EXPERIENCED growers ask. You're another who thinks that's the key. In fact that's where everyone should start. Right? Lol.
i meant why do people go Gungho with the cal/mag and lockout their plants bruh. Not trying to rag on you for asking about cal/mag because a lot of the time people add way too much, IE they get horny about adding cal/mag thinking its gonna help. I dont assume PH is the always the issue either. Although it is quite a common issue.
They were in some kinda pro mix. Yeah after reading all the comments I think I'll just plain water for a few days and see what happens.
Nah I do well water which is usually around 100 ppm.
Off topic question for you. What's the ideal watering temperature? My well water be in the low 60's. Should be room temp ?
No it's fine at that temperature. If you leave water out it starts oxidizing. I take two of the cans I use and pour the water back and forth a couple of times to get some oxygen in it. Some say colder water induces purpling in purple strains. I've not experienced this. But anything 60 or warmer is fine.
I wish I could agree, my water is salty due to softener.....Need to run RO... without weekly calmag....its a wrap... sigh.. shitty hard water.
Why not bypass the water softener like I do at my place, I just ran a hose directly from my water pump to my garden area.
My bad @Alcoholock missed the softner part, but @Masterdank420 makes a great point. Your water has nutrients in it you need, that you're losing from RO stripping it all out. Then you have to add it all back somehow. Extra work
And who wants to do extra work?
I dont own the property where my setup is at unfortunately. So Yep... and It hasnt caused me too much issues... just cal mag once a week..and kelp once a week. ....Then top dress with ffof in flower... and then some Jobes water soluble 3-3-3 w\myco to get it across the finish... im still formulating a schedule... but to be honest... its really strain dependent.
