Mag Deficiency?

Hi, this is my first grow. The crop is a little over a month old and is starting to get some burn spots on the leaves. First it started on the bigger fan leaves and now slowly spreading. Is this from mag deficiency?

If its mag deficiency, I heard to use Epsom Salt. Should I buy this or go to hydro store to get something better?

CalMag would be the best. I use botanicare calmag and its only like $12. But you can use epsom salt if you can get the calmag, it will work also.

I agree that it's a calcium deficiency. One thing that I know for certain is that it's not a magnesium deficiency. If it were, the ridges of the leaves would be pointing up, and they would also be light green between the veins (also a lack of succulence).

But if you were to have a mag. def., a good amount of epsom salt to use would be up to 1 tbsp/gallon. However, I usually use 2 tsp, which is 2/3 of a tbs.

Cal-Mag will work because it's a CALCIUM and magnesium supplement. However, I think it's Sensi-Cal that has three times the amount of Calcium in it. That would work better for you, or you could just get some lime.

I wouldn't go over 5ml/gallon of Cal-Mag if I were you.

I've found that Cal-Mag doesn't have quite as high a calcium to magnesium ratio as I would like (for the nutes that I use).

What's the "soooo" about? I never said anything about using too much calcium?

Foilar feeding is good too, but you have to make sure that you use a wetting agent. I'm speaking from experience, as I used a 1% epsom salt solution to foliar feed and most of it just got caked on my leaves and didn't absorb. It was a real bitch getting it off too.

I used a 1% solution because that's what it said to use in a book that I read. However, I think that's too much. It would probably be best to go with a 0.5% solution. Also, foliar feeding alone will not cure your problem. For the fastest possible results it would be best to do both...

i just picked up some bonicare cal-mag. hope this will fix the problem. since filtered water is stripped down. does everyone uses cal-mag in their hydro grow?

i use MagiCal in my system, seems to work fine, but botanicare is pretty good product. should work out, just dont add too much, u dont wanna lock out other nutrients.

hey every1...I think I also have a cal def. I added calcium nitrate to the nute solution in the rez yesterday. Is that going to be sufficient? How long do you think it will take for the plants to recover? I also have dolomite lime should I also foliar feed with this? If so how often? I look forward to any advice that yall can possibly give. Bless

I've seen this a lot with City Water, what sort of filter are you using? Looks like calcium locking out Mg, what are you using for a PH buffer? I am worried myself about to much calcium, RO water is nice then you can add the right amounts. But it is a pain to get that to the house and order an RO system, I might just try to balance with observation. I never did give Mg to offset the lime in the city water, that is more of a problem than the chlorine. I see yard plants do okay with City water, probably to offset the acid rain. I don't see as much lime in the city water today, but man it used to be very alkaline. Pretty much just add nutrients and grow!
