i was raising some shrooms and i got some maggots in the jars, now mycelium is still growing...i don't see any contamination...as far as i've researched the maggots don't relese any toxic chemical for the mushroms so i'm wondering if i should trow them away or not...i've seen other post about this but so far everyone throws them away and there isn't anyone who has kept them...so so far there isn't prove that they can't grow or not? any suggestions.

Eh, If you want to eat shrooms/don't mind giving to others shrooms that had maggots crawling around them, then go for it.

I personally would be a little disgusted by it, but if I'm dying to trip... I might consider it. I'd like to know if it'd be safe also.

It will be fine, if you really want to trip all you need to do is blend that medium/shroom stalks and roots up into a nice protein shake & you will be good to go.

how did maggots get into the jars, everytime i grow shrooms, i pressure cook the jars, then seal them, i dont really see any oportunity for flies to lay there larvae in the jars but thats another topic, if i were you id pop the contaminated jars outside and let the myceillium grow you some outdoor shrooms (just put them in a patch of tall grass and water them with rainwater or distilled water through a sprayer same as you would inside). the maggots should turn to flies and leave outside. whats more troubleing is that if flies managed to get into your jars you cant be certain that they are sterile and not contaminated with other microbes or bacteria.

While maggots themselves probably don't present a danger, they mean that your conditions are far from sterile which does present a problem.

I have never grown shroom, just done a lot of reading and thinking about it.
My readings say the grow jars/terrarium must be sterile. The jars most importantly.
If you have a living creature in there, your jar is compromised. That means you have the possibility of other bacteria, fungus, and pathogens in there.

To much of a risk to keep, IMHO. Again, I haven't tried growing them yet, but am sure thinking about it since I now own a pressure cooker.
