MAIN LINING - Exactly what is it...?

Just to clarify - It's best to only attempt these mainlining, lst, hst techniques with small plants that you've grown from seed?

At the moment my plan is to take cutting from plants in the 2nd week of flower and propagate them a week to 10 days, before they go under the MH veg light.

I haven't attempted growing from seed, YET.

And THANK YOU
It helps a great deal.
Thanks. I just use topping lst without tieing branches down ill bend em how I like hold them there for a bit then let go they usually stay like that for a day or two then I redo what I need to do, and plenty of supercropping...imhp growing from seed is better then.clone if your trying to top, lst, scrop cuz the noding/branching grows the same. Rather then clones where branches grow all weird like.and if u take cuttings from a plant in flower ur gonna need to have it in rooting plugs or a cloner under 24 hours of light to help the plant revert back to.veg itll take about 2 weeks....and as u can see in my pic that was a plant grown from seed u see how the branching is all equal noding not alternating

Seedlings are out of the question for the next 3 to 6 months.
Maybe I'll try to germinate my own seeds in Springtime - the British weather is more forgiving then.

This is my first crop - 9 bought Cuttings were transplanted straight to 18lt pots of clay pebbles on November 14th
First 5 days I nearly killed the 3 smallest with nute burn....(I am a beginner!)
Now we're at 4 weeks 3 days and I am planning on turning to flower on Thurdsay (35th day).

It's too late to try any type of pruning now.

Next crop I will attempt to top 3, fim 3 and leave 3 au natural
Then I can compare.

VIVE LA DIFFERENCE!

Is this an attempt at sarcasm?
I already tried a search.
Every post containing the word 'mainlining' was highlighted.
about 16000 of them
And not one of them seemed to define what mainlining actually was.
Hmm, don't remember posting that... I had a few too many drinks last night.
Not sure if it was sarcasm or what. Glad you got your answer though.

Peace

Good call-An uneven canopy would throw everything out of shape.
I'll pick ONE TECHNIQUE to try.

LOLLIPOPPED - ???
I don't know what this means......

Maybe it wasn't sarcasm....
Sometimes, when I re-read old posts of my own, they seem to convey a far different attitude to the one I was attempting to convey.
I suppose it's all down to the ability of the writer....?

No worries, mate.
Thanks for your magnanimous reply.

Peace achieved.

Ahhhhh i see you are just starting out.....read rob Clarkes book 10 times then 10 more.....youll learn all about the plant and techniques, but don't get ahead of yaself just focus on turning them 9 clones to bud....good luck and read read read....

Mainlining gives you a manifold like this.

Each main the same distance from the roots, non discriminated against in the distribution of nutrients etc.

So what happens if I mainline clones? I have five clones that I topped Sat at the fourth node. Was going to basically follow the mainline protocol. What am I in store for?

Have a look through NUGBUCKETS thread. They all discuss clones in there.

Its more about taking one node and bending and tieing it so that its even with the node below.

But ideally symmetry with nodes is the ideal way to mainline.

difference that I took from mainlining to LST and other methods (I might be mistaken) is other methods you let the plant grow how it wants while caring about keeping everything equal. In mainlining you do the same but also being vigilant to the node the shoots come from. Keeping all branching to a single node every time you top it so that the base that all tops come from is somewhat level.

Thanks jondamon,

I do see a slight difference in the node height but minimal, we shall see...

Diff between mainlining and LST is that in mainlining, you develop tops through progressive topping. With LST (though I top as well with LST) you turn what would be minor tops into main tops by taking that vertical xmas tree and turning it on its side. The stull that would otherwise get buried or have to grow out for light gets to grow up for it.

I have been using LST but the pics of the beautiful, bountiful, bud-e-full mainlined plants made me opt to give it a shot. Maybe I should have waited for my next seed grow...

Yeah-I did an amazon search and, after trawling through all the sci-fi fanatics (who've ALL copied their pen names after Afthur C CLARKE - THOUSANDS OF THEM!) I found three books.

Marijuana Botany.
Cannabis: Evolution and Ethnobotany. and
Hashish.

Because of the subject matter I can dismiss Hashish as being the book you recommend.
Cannabis: Evolution and Ethnobotany was only released in October, this year.
Marijuana Botany was on the shelves of Sensi Seeds, Amsterdam, when I visited in 1992 - so I'm guessing this is the one.

It looks fascinating BUT, the newer book, evolution and ethnobotany, is a much more in depth account.
About twice as long and three times more expensive (£65) it looks like the type of excruciatingly precise and historically accurate volume that I love.
(and that's not sarcasm - I REALLY am that type of person. When I am not studying marijuana horticulture I read scholarly history books.
TV gameshows and red top tabloids are NOT my preference).

So thanks, again, for introducing me to this author.

You should be in advertising.

I was in advertising as it would so happen :bigjoint: Thankfully, while it still ultimately provides my paycheck, i have removed myself from corporate America, pretty much!

So NOE, what is your history of choice. I used to be scifi guy, now strictly nonfiction.

Okay, I read alot of RIU. Hard to tell fiction from nonfiction around here :-)
