Week 21: vertical growth has completely stopped now...tallest one (Chinook Haze) maxed out at just under 10 feet. Looks like these gals are 100% focussed on growing their buds. Even the foot-dragging Chinook has started flowering finally.

The Tomahawk has pulled way ahead of the others in terms of bud development. Guessing this will be the first to harvest. Maybe before Columbus Day?

Weather has been really nice--a little damp for a couple days at the start of the week, but mostly sunny and dry with cool crisp nights. The plants seem very happy.

So check this out: looks like a caterpillar that got smoked by the Bt I applied last week. First cat. I've been in a while. That what it looks like to you? I read when they eat a leaf with Bt their digestive system basically explodes and they turn dark brown/black. Works for me...glad to see the Bt is doing its job.

Better late than never with the Chinook Haze. Probably be nearly Thanksgiving before she's ready though:

Orange Blossom Special is probably second only to the Tomahawk in terms of bud development:

Copper Chem was a late bloomer but starting to come along now:
cc.jpg

The buds on the Tomahawk are really coming along. Funny how this has seemed like the fussiest plant all year yet is leading the pack now:
t.jpg

Finally, the CBD strain, Cherry Wine, is slowly developing. Seems like she's taking her time after showing flowers fairly early. Maybe once the nights turn colder she'll move along more.

Here's a couple shots of the garden. Not a lot of intense smell yet (even from the Tomahawk) but I imagine that will start any week now.

Guess another summer's come and gone. Sure was a hot and dry one here in Maine. We'll see what the fall brings. Guessing it will stay fairly dry and sunny but cooler nights. If I'm lucky the warm sunny days will predominate all through October and maybe I'll have a shot at finishing everything properly.

Hope everyone's doing well. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions about harvesting/drying/curing in a few weeks!

For anti-mold, try using organic yogurt with labs at around 2.5 tbsp per gallon. Trying it this year with some foliar spraying with baking soda too. Rain is scheduled for next two weeks straight and temps dropping to low 50's so I hope they push through. Just checked and we still have 12.5 hours of light on Sept 17 so a bit north of Maine but hopefully since I haven't been back to see them for a couple weeks that all is good and flowering. 2.5 weeks ago there were only pistils.

Thanks--right back at you.

I may need some hand holding through these final stressful weeks...stick around please! I feel like I'm rounding the corner at third base and heading for home now but afraid I may get thrown out at the plate!
We are all here for you. Just try to be as proactive about mold and pests as possible. Keep your buds dry (leaf blowers work wonders)
And dont harvest early unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.
Still a ways to go! You will do great.

Please no one put baking soda in the soil... please and thank you.
Hey I read somewhere about this and I live at 60 latitude where I'm freaking out. Buds on only one plant and no more than very small pistils on everything else. The temps will be freezing at night most likely mid October. Everything I've been reading about these milk bacteria making free radicals that prevent mold made me wanna try it. Thank goodness I didn't add to the soil yet. I will only use the keefir and water. Have you never heard of this?

I get the freezing etc .... what was the purpose of adding baking soda to the soil?! Not only could you throw off the ph of the soil and kill any beneficial bacteria and fungus but you could potentially fry your roots.

I hear you about the late buds, just stay positive and do what you can to nurse them along. Water them well if you know the temp's going down that night and mulch heavily for insulation.

Baking soda as foliar spray maybe, definitely not to be added to soil. I'm using a little potassium bicarbonate instead of baking soda for foliar--mixing it with my Bt solution. I've read about the milk--sounds worth a try. Imagine if you can get raw milk rather than pasteurized that might be even better (more healthy microbes in it).

Yea I haven't grown in years and this is my first outdoor so far north. I am just searching Google which was a bad idea.

Yea thanks y'all for catching me before I really mess things up. Your first time outdoor these you've grown have gone so vertical. They were how big when you put them outdoors? Mine are only chest high but as wide as I am tall or more.

So my jelly pie is second to last in flower in this garden... and tho the rest of the plants are doing great she is wanting to fade already. Oh well lol I will keep that in mind next yr when I grow her.
Anyways as you can see she has a long ways to go. Screenshot_20200902-180041_Gallery.jpg20200905_130710.jpg20200905_130740.jpg
However the maverick (star dawg x goji) even tho is the smallest is really something special. I made a cross with that one. Hope it's a keeper. Screenshot_20200905-145825_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20200905-150617_Gallery.jpg

Does "fade" refer to leaves fading? My Tomahawk is doing that quite a bit too. Wasn't sure if it was trying to tell me it wanted something. Is that just genetics?

Your garden looks terrific. That's intetesting what you said about the chilly nights lately. The weather is nothing if not unpredictable these days...but I hope you have a nice extended Indian summer in October.

Very breezy here today, full sun again, supposed to go back to warm and humid this week. Crazy about the off the charts heat in California and snow and cold reportedly coming early to the Rockies.

They were about 1 foot tall and roughly 10 weeks old when I transplanted to the ground. Topped them 3 times....hate to think how tall they'd be if never topped.

Yes fade means they start to get lighter in color and start to yellow. She is the only strain in the garden doing it I remember when I grew her mother in the tent, she yellowed pretty fast too. I've been giving her extra nitrogen but will stop because it's not doing any good.
