Psilocybe semilanceata, and yes they do grow in North America.

Magic mushrooms like many living organism can and do hitchhike thier way to regions that they are not accustomed too. For example, say someone from Maine has horses. These folks take thier horses to Florida in the winter and bring them back to Maine in the summer. The field in Florida has psilocybe cubensis growing in it, the horses ingest a couple mushrooms while eating grass. They get loaded into a trailer and shipped to Maine. The spores get crapped out in the trailer, then the trailer gets cleaned out back here.
Climate change adds even more likely hood for species to grow in areas they didn't grow in before. I had an A+ strain that would even fruit in the low to mid 40's.

Not to mention all the hobbiests that dump thier spent cakes or mono tubs outdoors when thier done.
