Mainline - is hole in main stem bad?

I just cut my plants to try some mainlining. One of my plants had a hole down the center of it already. Do I need to tie it off or plug it, or will it be fine left alone?
The only reason to be concerned about those hollow stems (which is btw normal and a good sign that your plant is growing along just fine) is that they can be a safe home for pests and fungus infections. There is a type of wax used in apple orchards for grafting that you can use to seal your cut ends. Using it helps your plant retain hydration and keeps them sealed up from pathogens, infections and bugs.
