I'm not an ISO expert by any means but why is it so dark for such a short soak.
Should be golden colored. Is it really young weed maybe?

It's the shake and trim from 2 plants that were harvested in the last week, fresh frozen.

I like to do 3 quick washes back to back with the same cannabis material. I just get 3 mason jars with coffee filters on each, and another jar with my frozen cannabis. The first one I wash for only like 5 seconds without shaking or swirling, I just pour freezing cold iso in until it's soaked, pause, pour iso out onto the filter. I keep the cannabis in the same jar the whole time though by blocking it from falling out, with a lid or something. Then move onto the second wash asap. The second one I do for like 15-20 seconds swirling it around a bit. Then the third one as long as you want but I usually keep it 30-45 seconds, agitating the material more than the first 2. Then I evaporate them all on separate pyrex dishes as well. The first wash will be crumbly crystally goodness, very pure stuff. The second one more goldish and waxy but still great quality. And the third darker green, but you can make the third run stronger or weaker, depending on what you want. This way you get 3 different qualities of product instead of 1.

I just think 2 mins was a bit long unless thats what you were going for.

I'm just east of Toronto. I end up having to squeeze every last drop out of the shake, so I end up smoking the green stuff you guys despise :)

I paused when writing this, couldn't find the word I was looking for, so ended up with happy... The word I was actually looking for was thankful
So thanks everyone... Now I'm gonna smoke a dab of this awesome red oil :)

Color has no bearing on the outcome IMO. I am shooting for efficacy, nothing else matters.

If it keeps me from chopping down a plant early, then it's all good :)

Unfortunately, I still end up chopping early....

Nothing wrong with a good cherry oil. It's just that there is some room for improvement.
Maybe buy yourself a pound of decent sugar trim until you are ready with your own. I've seen it on sale on sites.

I was thinking of an ounce of kief if my buddy still has any left, that should make awesome oil, and it's cheap... Whatcha think?

I've never made oil with kief only so not sure. I've pressed it as rosin and it comes out a bit darker. But ok still. More hard than creamy I found.
I use butane so my oil is always honey colored. Maybe if you ran butane over it would be more yellow.

Chasing this golden colored oil, am I just chasing visual aesthetics now, or is the oil actually better, because this is already way past my previous results, it actually gives me a headrush :)

Well yes it is better..a much better flavor usually. I personally prefer butane extracted. But when done right like GB123 does ISO is also very good. I've smoke his ISO oil and it's great!
The higher end the extract usually translates into superior taste.
Why not buy a gram or two of maybe some Rosin or Terp Sauce or Diamonds to see what you can get if you want to. Or some better quality shatter. Or some Buddar. I love buddar.

Just a heads up. I find shatter to less flavorful. It's been vacuumed large so some characteristics are lost.

If I was to rank concentrates from top shelf to bottom it would be
Diamonds
Bubble hash
Rosin
Budder
Shatter (winterized & purged)
Bho
Qwiso (red or gold)
Dry ice hash
Sifted kief
Black hash
Scissor hash
B wash iso (black)
Acetone washed oil (green).

I'm sure there's others I've tried but these are still in memory. Obviously each one has nuances so I understand if you disagree.
