Making Tincture with Medshed - 2013 Recipe

Can you post pics of your process, Bubba?

If you decide to buy a machine, look at the 6 gallon washers on ebay. I got mine there and it was cheaper than the Bubble Now. Same machine, just without the logo.

Like this mixer much better than the metal one I picked up a Lowes. The washer looks like a good investment and allows you to run the material several times, which you won't do after becoming tired or bored with the manual process. Thanks Med!

Med, have you ever measured the temp that the mixture gets to when setting in a water bath? I see you wrote 170 on the outside of the little crock.... I'm getting ready to make some tincture with my green ass hash lol... but I plan to use my old croc pot and I'm not sure what temp it will get the water to.

Hey Bubba - 170 is the temperature the water in the croc gets to with the lid on the pot. I imagine the tincture mixture reaches a similar temp but have not directly measured it.

Thanks Med. Last question I think. The 1 oz. of glycerin you call for, this is a fluid ounce correct?

Guessing that curing the hash really is not necessary? Looking forward to your impressions on this tincture Bubba as I am planning to make some too. The way I understand it the decarb temp is about 240 for 20 minutes, but I haven't done it yet so may have bad data. I am going to bake a couple oz of buds in the oven tomorrow using that temp/time in prep for some RSO, using a Pyrex dish covered with foil. The tincture comes later, after making more bubble. Guessing a positive outcome with that Snow Goddess high CBD trim hash, have fun!

Med said curing wasn't important for the tincture. I ended up with just enough hash to make a 3 oz batch. It's on the 2nd cook now.

I have not done a side-by-side comparison to determine whether hash curing makes better tincture but I think it would not be a noticeable difference.

Bubba - yes the ounce of glycerine is a liquid ounce. I have found that I get some variation in the amount of finished tincture based on the quality of hash. Don't be surprised if you end up with less tincture than you thought you would have. You can always add glycerine to the final product to increase the volume. I don't do that though. I just adjust my doses to compensate for the increased strength of the more concentrated tincture.

Thanks Med. I decided to shut it down early last night so I wouldn't have to get up and turn it off at midnight. Cooking again now and will drain overnight and give a whirl tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I have a high CBD pheno in the Sativa Dom buds... dark green outside - nice and purple inside. The lab tech at Cannlabs told me it looks the way CBD buds typically look.

Again with the purple related to CBD. Wonder if the traditional purple strains like Urkle, Haze and Grandaddy have a higher CBD... Good luck with your tincture!

I bought a washing machine on eBay lol... I have no self control. Thanks for the tip on the link. It should be here in a week or so. When it gets here, I plan to hash up ~ 6 ounces of cured bud. Do I chop the buds up before I put them in the bag?

Hey Bubba - I understand the lack of self control. I have the same problem myself.

I just need to find the time to use my new machine. I've got a big stockpile of bud and trim waiting to go in. Unfortunately, time has not been my friend lately. Ironically, I am in Amsterdam right now on a business trip. I really wanted to sneak away from my co-workers and grab some CBD Crew seeds at one of the seed shops but that didn't happen. I fly out in the morning with the last of the cannapills I brought with me. It should at least be an enjoyable flight home with a cap of Blue Dream Rick Simpson Oil, thanks to bshdctr. The one I took on the way over here COMPLETELY kicked me in the head, that's for sure.

Anyway, I do chop up my buds before hashing them. In fact, bshdctr (speak of the devil) sent me the link to the video below which is basically a "how to" on using the washing machine.

Thanks for the info and links. The tincture is excellent btw and doesn't taste bad at all IMO - nice CBD effect.

Made a double batch of tincture. Used 6 grams of my homegrown hash plus 3g store bought Chem4 bubble plus 6.5g of Kief. Pretty potent,1/2 a dropper is a good maintenance dose. I didn't realize it, but an ounce of tincture is worth $150 or so.... damn.... That's like cramming over an ounce of good buds into that little jar for perspective.

Nice Bubba. Yep, tincture is like liquid gold. It would be expensive to make if you were buying the hash.

I just started a batch of Black Widow tincture tonight. 28 grams of hash (mostly 25 micron, about 4 grams of 73) is soaking in Everclear right now. I'm going to finish it out to 6 ounces of tincture.

I LOVE the washing machine!! I'm bachelor boy this week with the family away so I've been hashin' it up. I have made about 32 grams of Black Widow hash and about 25 grams of Eldorado hash. Good thing too, cuz I'm almost out of tincture...
