You won't start seeing auto until the F2's you won't see real numbers of them until F3.. My advice, make ALOT of seeds, and do LARGE selections.
The male passes the auto gene, so use them to pass the gene to a non auto clone. Try to use more than one male when breeding, also tag and bag male pollen for progeny testing. Auto pollen is the only thing we get to keep, in terms of breeding. So finding that gem to breed with is everything.
I wouldn't use lowryder, it passes low potency as well. You will have to do a BX at least once back to the clone to get any kind of NICE potency in your own AF line. Which can add a good year to a project. Diesle ryder or LR #2 would be good, they are fairly inbred, also selected for potency.
I am using mossy jems in my own AF's to pass the AF gene. There is a cloven pheno that gets huge. They are also well past F7, so they are as close to an IBL as you'd like. They are pretty dom in anything you cross it with. Also i like the skunky smells i get from the jem line, i am off the fruit of most Af's.
Also when crossing autos together as long as both parents AF'd the offspring will be dom in the AF trait. Some strains have AF back in the lines, when afghani was crossed to LR#1, there was Af's in the F1 seeds. Which would seem to mean there is a reccesive AF trait in the affi some palce. Also is interesting that the chemdog seeds that got tainted with auto pollen had autos in that F1 cross... Interesting stuff autos are.
