it goes over the outside of both so I guess you’d say female to female
The lamp hood and fan would be the male

Get the size ducting for the size of the fan or tube etc.


The cool tube is 5” and the fan you’ve bought it 6”.

so here’s what you’ll need.

6” to 5” reducer

Small amount of 5” ducting
Small amount of 6” ducting

Cool tube to 5” ducting to 5”-6” reducer to 6” ducting to 6” fan.

Reducer on eBay.

you’ll also need jubilee clips or hose clamps to hold each of the ducting g to the tube/fan/reducer

Not the greatest shot but you can see ducting between my filter and my fan.

same principle with the cool tube.

if you’re using a filter go like this


filter — ducting — cool tube — ducting — fan — ducting away from grow area.

You may also need some spigot plates for your sized ducting to attach the ducting to walls/ceiling etc for exhausting.

If you're connecting the fan directly to the filter use a quick clamp/fast clamp I think they're called.

Failing that some ducting with the appropriate size jubilee clips.
Conecting the filter directly to the fan makes it a bit quieter than fan ducting then filter.

6" ducting fits fine onto 5" fittings using a jubilee you also get the advantages of bigger diameter ducting = less resistance.

Are they the ones lined with rubber to Create the air tight seal?

I've basically bought all new stuff because I had problems with heat so bought new air cooled light and new bigger extractor fan all 6 inch but I didnt get new ducting so my current ducting is 4inch and the fitting on carbon filter is 4inch but fan and light is 6 inch so I think I'm better getting 6inch ducting and just changing it all to that

That 4" ducting will impact on the performance of the fan you should spend the 20 quid and get the right size.
