Mandala Sadhu and Ganesh

I wanted to share my experience with these two strains because I look on the net and didnt find ANY helpful info regarding these strains when i was looking to purchase.

Ill start out with the Sadhu. Ordered a 10 pack, got 6 females. Of the 6 females it seemed that there were 2 phenotypes.

Physical decription.

PHENO A
is fairly short, massive side buds, average height between 2 1/2 to 3 ft high.
PHENO B
is TALL, Christmas tree shaped, always around 3 1/2 to 4 ft tall. Massive main cola usually over 1 ft long, not to many impressive lower buds.

Flowering time.

Pheno A and B are both very close when it comes to maturity. Mandala claims 60-65 days, for me peak ripeness (sadly) is closer to 75-85 days for both.

Growing.

They are again both fairly equal in requirements for nutrients. Mandala claims their strains dont require "additional" feeding. I found this VERY untrue and really took me a few grows to understand how this strain grow. This plant consumes NITROGEN at a huge rate between weeks 3-6 of flowering. Im guessing since this is a landrace strain, I can only assume that in its natural enviorment their is lots of nitrogen. Pheno A produces a much better leaf/bud ratio. Pheno B is rather leafy with DARK green vegetation, vs a lighter green for Pheno A. It wont produce and cool colors late in flowering but it will ALWAYS be yellow near completion.

Smoke Report

Pheno A is the stronger of the two. What is lacks in weight, it makes up for is with ridiculous frostiness. Tight, rock hard buds with a semi-exotic different taste. A little harsher then B, Better "bag" appeal

Pheno B. ends up more on the Sativa side. Its buds are pretty dense but not rock hard. It is stickier, and with out a doubt has a better smell to it. It is also a smoother smoke that can be fully enjoyed with out ending up sleeping on the couch :-P But as noted above I dont think it packs quit the punch that Pheno A does.

Dry weights on average. Pheno A, 2-2 1/2 oz, Pheno B, 3 - 3 3/4 oz per plant.

Overall Grade.
I would rate them both a solid B. Flowering time really brings the grade down.

1st pic Pheno B top cola.
2nd pic A vs B. A on right.
Other 2 close ups of a nearly finished Pheno A

All done with 1000w Hortilux Super HPS, Happy Frog base soil with ONLY ORGANIC additives. 3 gallon Smart pots. Temperature 75 day time, 62-66 night time.

Ganesh is a small plant. If you have space concerns this guy is just for you. It is labeled as a single cola plant and thats exactly what it is. This strain is VERY stable, I never noticed a different pheno the few times ive grown this strain. You always know what your gonna get, a short plant that will yeild you 1 oz with proper care.

I grow this strain in a 2 gallon smart pot and thats plenty for it. Pretty basic in terms of feeding, like Sadhu it loves nitrogen. Hardly any stretch during the first 2 weeks of 12/12. Flowering time is a good 9 weeks to peak ripeness

Verdict? This is the last Ganest ill grow. Silmply doesnt produce enough to be worth of having a mother plant. Decent mellow high. Not the tastiest stuff on earth, my guess is because it is leafy as HELL, but because the leaves are covered in trichomes it makes an excellent hash plant.

Grade solid C+

pic 1. Ganesh left, Sadhu pheno B middle, Sadhu pheno A right
pic 2. Ganesh top cola.
pic 3. Ganesh and Sadhu B, cloned and flowered the same day, just for comparison

Nice report. Lots of info there. Doesn't sound like you'd really recommend either strain...but useful info nonetheless. I was particularly interested to read that they're not the light feeders that they're claimed to be.

Did you happen to make any hash out of either of these strains? Seems like quite a few of Mandala's strains are tailor-made for that kind of thing.

Doesn't sound like you'd really recommend either strain...but useful info nonetheless.

I received a pack of Mandala's Mango Zamal not too long ago. They claim it's 100% sativa...and 14-16 weeks flowering time. lol, I hope they didn't underestimate that one, too.

yes you can make some decent hash with these 2 strains! For the price the are great. Id look at Mandala over say a Nirvana seeds anyday. Im just comparing Nirvana because price wise they are about the same. But ill be honest and say ive grown much better strains.

Nice post. I'm finishing up a Sadhu grow (my first) and I would second everything you've stated. Blind tasting by friends backs up your comments on the strength of the pheno. "A" definately smaller with more punch.

Mandala strains are wildcards. they are somewhat stable, but they are like the lotto. you get that 1 or 2 that are amazing. these are landrace strains, best used for breeding by a experienced grower, or someone with a naturally green thumb. If you want some good homegrown, their strains are great, but i would not recomend to cash croppers unless they are able to work outdoors. these strains do display a delightful smell, however i do not plan to continue breeding with ganesh. satori has many more desirable characteristics. smell, resin, and sativa high are all better. am starting my own line. satori father, and a greenhouse super bud. anyone can say whatever they want about arjan and the greenhouse, but every seed ive ever bought from them germed 100% and gave some sweet genetics. mandala are great, just not big money makers indoor. they are deffinitly a head stash, for someone into exotic taste. they do provide a enjoyable grow experience, as long as you follow the mandala grow guide. it may seem silly when you have your own method, but with heirloom landraces follow thier guide.

hey chronic, where did you order your seeds from? I went on the mandala site and they only take big orders. I just want to try like a 5 pack.
