Hello i havent read the thread but only the OP question. Yes i have a very close family friend who has bad bi-polar ( and other things unfourtantely ) when she takes her pills it does help her but it makes her zombie like and makes her feel disgustingly shitty. We then told her to try smoking some herb and she asked her doctor ( whos also my doctor whos obviously a stoner as such and reccomended hash ) Coz we are in the UK hhe said it was illegal if he could prescribe but we eventually found a source of good hash ( not stupid soapbar ) and i must say she smokes every day just a little but a ten's and it helps her alot, our doctor has recognised this and is very happy. Its just such a shame medical cannabhis is illegal in the UK.

She is alot more relaxed and can function better and will eat alot more, which is terrific for her.

Peace

i was diagnosed with manic depression when i was twelve,i discovered weed when i was 14,it made the depression better but the manic episodes got worse if anything.over the years a bunch of bad crap happened and the depression got worse and worse and pretty much cancelled out the manic episodes, none of the meds i tryed or weed or anything else seemed to help.when i was 22 i tryed to commit suicide by eating amanita toadstools,it made me trip like i was on shrooms and datura at the same time X100,was a totally uncontrolable trip,i survived but it triggered psychosis,i would randomly start trippin,i didnt drive for 2 years, even now i have mild shroom like hallucinations 5 years later for no reason,i got givin all sorts of medications by my doc but none of them affect the hallucinations, except seroquel which made em stronger,i only got undesirable affects from the meds so i stopped em about a year ago,i just live with it now.But whateva those amanitas did to me they fixed me in a way because i now have no depression or mania, weed affects me now in different was than it used to if its too heavy an indica it makes me a bit down if i smoke to much of it,and sativa makes me feel great.other drugs affect me differently too, amphetamine based drugs do absolutely nothing to me except make my heart race, also i dont build up a tollerance to weed anymore but it does make me trip a bit,a whole joint makes me feel like ive had a good dose of shrooms, and a single shroom makes me have very strong wonderful trips, before i poisoned myself i had to have half a dozen shrooms just to get a buzz on,i also used to smoke a least an oz a week, now i stuggle to smoke more than 2 grams, i think everybodys differant youve gotta just find what works for you,if meds from the doc aint workin get them to change em,until you find something that works,if like me you run out of meds to try,you probably better off without em

my partner has borderline personality disorder which can be pretty similar. before he was smoking he was a SERIOUS self harmer (or should isay self muterlater!!!!) and had very aggressive tendencies towards himself and others and was always depressed! since he has been a heavey smoker all his symptms have reduced! the main problem we have now is the mood swings if we cant get! lol!

exactly mate! thats why they should either pescribe it or just blooy make it legal! or they should just make evrywhere elses laws like holland so we can have cafes and grow our own without any bother! if it effects you in a bad way then nok it on the hed, but if it makes you feel gret then why cant we smoke it?!

Very interesting story man thank you for posting it! Psychadelics have been shown to be effective against many psychiatric disorders, too bad there is a taboo surrounding them.

Trip off a J!? I don't think I would like that.

Thank you to everyone else who posted as well.:peace:

I am bi-polar have to say that if it wasn't for my mmj i would be fucked honestly. helps with my anxiety on hypo manic days and depending on strand can really act as a pick me up. I am a daily smoker been on several different types of meds for my severe anxiety and agoraphobia some meds that i have been on have only helped other disorders manifest themselves. i am a big beliver of medicinal use and think it might be worth a shot.

Some interesting research on cannabis.

Apparently CBD is actually a very effective anti-psychotic.

Most plants today are grown for their high THC content and as a result they contain less CBD. The claim that Cannabis induces psychosis seems to be a moot point in the wake of new research.

So maybe a plant with higher CBD content would be good for bi-polar?

I would agree with CBD being good for Bipolar disorder. My mother was diagnosed bipolar and I have depression and I share a lot of her tendencies although I am not bipolar. Any indica with a high level of CBD chills me out. I get panic attacks when I smoke strong sativas sometimes though.

Oooo . . I'm a little biased with 2 of those meds you mentioned. I had horrible side effects from them. But if she's smoking more indica dominant weed overall, more during a manic episode, the better. When she's manic, she should smoke something more sativa dominant.

I'd say Blueberry nug for indica and Sour Diesel for depressive episode

I am a self medicated bi-polar person

yes marijuana helps, at first i didnt know how to handle it so i tried it when i was 19, but never did again till 23.. i had to learn to "let myself go" while on it, which helped immensely. I then learned eniviornment and music also make it better, and now it helps me with that, and my insomnia (which really comes from the mania side of things..)

Nice thanks for the personal experience. Good to know something can be learned from cannabis as a medicine even though research is restricted.:peace:

This is simple, lets get passed the crap, THE TRUTH IS THAT EVERYONES PHYSIOLOGY IS DIFFERENT!!!! I have been diagnosed with bipolar for 20 years, and have smoked for about 14 of them. It works great for me with NO OTHER MEDICATIONS. Either your body allows it, or it does not. Marijuana is not for everyone, but, it is for alot as well.
