Mason jars vs.... regular jars?

So I read a guide on harvesting and it said to get mason jars to keep the bud in (basically said the longer you keep it in there the better it'll be, though if you keep it TOO long it will lose potency). Well my question is... does it really have to be a mason jar? Can it just be tupperware or a glass jar or an empty coffee jar or something?

Any all glass jar will work. Masons are suggested because they are all glass and have a clasp on top. Don't use tupperware ... Glass jar and top are fine.

any type of glass jar is the best method. Mason jars are just really nice because of that clasp they have on top, and there very cheap too.

Not necessarily, mason jars have the metal "clasp" that seals the jar air-tight, these jars are meant for preserves and will work perfect...they are also fairly cheap and will cost you cents depending on size...

If you decide to recycle jars from the kitchen, like spaghetti sauce jars, pickle jars, etc, let me share a trick. (I have never cured before, but I'm going to try it with just a few nugs when we're done.)

To get the smell out, stuff it full of newspaper (kinda tight) and twist the lid back on. Let it sit for a few days. Repeat with new newspaper until pickle-funk is gone. Usu takes about 2 weeks.

I'm a big 'reuse & repurpose' kinda person. Also, make sure those bitches are SPOTLESS. Scrub the insides of the lids, the ring where the lid goes on, etc., everywheres. One bit of moldy Ragu and you've got trouble. I'd imagine. :)

a 12 pack of 16oz. mason jars was only $8 last time i bought, purchased at a pavillions

they're great, the only problem i have is my wife taking them as they empty to use for food and other purposes, we like drinking a huge glass of lemonade or something of the like out of these too

SLB I value your opinions and you have never steered me wrong yet... so I ask you,how about old sauce jars?

glass with a metal lid with a small strip of sealing medium(rubber, plastic, can't really tell without ruining it). the mason jars seem to have the same thing, the only difference i can see is the mason jars have fine treads on the screw on lids which may provide a tighter seal because it is tighted more evenly around the glass. but on the flip side the tomato sauce jars don't leak air either, I keep them in a pantry for months and the sauce isn't bad when I open it. Yes, I know people will say, "yea but the sauce jar is vacuum sealed from manufacturer!" and yes , that is correct. but, the only true way to seal a mason jar is with blanching and this in turn vaccum seals the lid on. we don't blanch our bud in a mason jar so.............

does my theory sound solid that sauce jars will work just fine?? and yes, I have plenty of mason jars from making my own jam. I am just asking for those who may not be able to purchase them........
I thought of all of this while i was making spaghetti today....yum!!!!!

Wal-Mart for sure will have them. I would recommend getting the widemouth 16oz. jars made by BALL. I think its like $6.87 for a case. But, they have all types of sizes also.
