Hey guys. I’m dealing with a new situation I haven’t really messed with yet… My makeshift rain shelter didn’t help much during this last big storm that rolled through California.
My plants got soaked, and now I’m trying to decipher whether I have a mold issue or not.
I have not seen ANY actual mold, nor have I seen any browning of plant tissue that should be green (or purple). What I do see is soggy mats of pistils that appear darker brown that they should in some areas. If I pinch off some of the matted pistils and rub them between my fingers, they just fall apart completely - as if they are being composted in place (ha!).
This problem is only affecting one plant - a plant with an odd bud structure where new flower clusters keep bursting out of older calyxes (meaning there is a big wad of hairs sticking out of one calyx until it bursts open. You can see that happening in this pic, and you can also see the darker brown I’m referring to.
My gut is telling me to ride this out a little longer and see if it either develops into true mold/rot or dries up and turns out to be nothing.
What do you think? Have you ever experienced something like this where your pistils get soft/soggy, dark brown, and seem to break down right on the plant but none of the green tissue seems to be impacted?
