max yeild off a 5 gallon bucket

is there a max yeild i can get with a bucket sents the roots dont have far to go? i do not now were to get like a 10gallon bucket but would i get alot more harvest off a bigger bucket or pot? dose anyone now the average yeild off a 5 gallon bucket?

get a plastic garbage can of the size you want and drill holes in the bottom, im sure you can find something to fit your needs and budget if you go to walmart or a similar larger store.

how big of plants you planning on growing and are or have you already/going to start/started them a while back? the 26 should be enough for a really good root system probally.

I got 10 ounces dry out of a 5 gallon bucket - but that was a robust UK gallon, not a feeble US gallon.

The larger container the better for just about any plant. Let the roots stretch out. They don't want to be cramped in a small pail. They're subject to a whole host of problems being root bound. While you can grow them in a 5 gallon container you're much better off IMO with say a 20 gallon planter/trash barrel or larger. I wish I had mine in such a controlled environment where I could move them to the sun. They would have rewarded me handsomely.

Note on Rubber maid totes they're non uv resistant, will become brittle and crack up. You can get a decent container at Lowes or Homedepot. Why skimp on where your plant is going to live? Do you want to have it living in the ghetto or a penthouse?

you should have some fucking big plants man a 5 gallon pot will suport a 5 foot plant atleast i had mine just under 5' and i was tieing her down so she prolly woulda been like 7' if i dint tie her down

hey i just saw this thread and i really like the idea of growing in a rubbermaid tote, bcuz i have heard wonderful things happen when plant roots meet

if the rubbermaid wouldnt work, what would support 2 plants with plenty of room for root growth??

I'm not saying the totes wont work just that they do become brittle and crack like potato chips over time. In a very sunny environment that wouldn't be too long. The grow bags mentioned are the cheapest containers money can buy. Their only problem is falling over but if you can support them then they're the most economical containers. Don't skimp on size those. 1 plant to a pot or bag. Let them have their space and not compete for the same nutrients.

i've used rubbermaids for 2 years now they have yet to crack

Robust UK gallon? I thought they use like wimpy liters or something over there? haha.

Man I've seen some big ass plants this year in 5 gallon buckets. I'm thinking about trying it next year. I HATE digging holes!

Do you move them around a lot? The OP I believe was talking about portability. I got ones outside right now that would chew like stale chips. Perhaps another factor is cold. Our temp range is about -5 to 100. All I know id mine break up. Just adding that warning. Grow bags though are the way to go if you need to save money that you can put into better growing medium.

I'm just harvesting now with 5-gallon buckets. They worked great, but definitely limited the size of the plants. They all got to at least 6 1/2 feet tall, but they weren't very bulky. I moved from the ground to buckets in mid-June.

I would go with grow bags http://www.gardeners.com/Grow-Bags/GrowBags_Cat,default,sc.html or large garbage containers.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the containers breaking down in the sun, unless you live in the southwest in the US. After a couple years, a container could break down in the sun, but I highly doubt you're gonna lose the structural integrity of a plastic garbage container in just a few years.
