Maximizing Vermont’s 6 count plant limit

Hey folks im sure many have already heard Vermont is legalizing recreational marijuana July 1st 2018.
Vermont will allow a total of 6 plants growing at one time per dwelling. Now yes 6 plants but only 2 plants are allowed to be flowered at any one time.

The law states 2 mature 4 immature plants.

I’m sure a lot of people who live in Vermont are wondering how to maximize their yields without going over their plant limit ? I can’t be the only one thinking about this right lol ?

So I’ve been thinking the last few days on how to maximize a 2 flower 4 veg system.

I’m thinking a perpetual harvest every month

First have a seedling early veg tent. Like a 2x4 having 3 of 4 vegging plants

Then have a 3x3 for vegging the plant that’s ready to go into the flower room.

Having a 4x8 flower room one plant per 4x4, harvest each month. Might have to veg one week in 4x8 to get plant to stretch to the edges of the 4x4 area.

Now if you started all 6 plants at one time, vegged the first one for one month then flowered this plant would obviously be smaller . So 5 plants vegging 1 plant flower.

month 2 - you would transfer another plant into the 4x8 flower room. That plant would be 2 months old going into flower. Now you have 4 plants vegging 2 plants flowering ! The legal limit !

Month 3 - harvest first flowering plant, move 1 vegging plant into flower this vegging plant would be 3 months old going into flower. start one more seedling or cutting in seedling tent. Now you would have 3 plants vegging 1 seedling 2 flowering 1 plant drying.

Month 4 isnt much different from month 3 other than now the vegging plant being put into the flower room would be 4 months old.

And that is how the perpetual grow would go a 4 month old vegging plant would go into the 4x8 flowering room each month. One plant inch each 4x8 section.

Now I just smoked a huge dab so I’m gonna ramble lol.

Running bridgelux eb series led modules at 600 total Watts in a 4x4 is 37.5 watts per square foot. I think running a 30 gallon smart pot maybe even a 65 gal lol. Or a 30 gallon tote DWC. Now if you’ve got the fundamentals down you’ve got a decent idea on what your doing.... my estimate Would be roughly anywhere between 1-2.5 pounds... now 1.86 gpw... that’s pretty freakin high... but I’ve heard of growers getting in the 2gpw before it’s rare.. but it has happened. It comes down to having the right environment the right skills to know what the heck todo when shit goes haywire. Knowing what to do when theirs a deficiency is key to growing, hands down doesn’t matter what you’re growing. If you can’t fix a Deficiency your plant will suffer and yield Mediocre bud.

Even throwing up 2 315 watt cmh =630 Watts with the right strain and 4 month vegging would get 1.5-2 pounds

Now correct me if I’m entirely wrong on this and 4 months is not possible for some reason indoors...

Hope this helps some newbies out there that are just getting into growing now that it will be legal in Vermont July 1st but also if other states adapt the same laws Vermont has.

haha Thanks piece

6 plants but only 2 plants are allowed to be flowered at any one time.
Reckon y'all might need to do some research on the subject of grafting.

Regardless, if I was looking to keep it legal under those conditions, I'd use long veg times, and graft different known female strains on a single vegging plant so that when I flowered I'd have 4 different strains flowering on a single plant. Then I'd scrog the shit out it and push for an elbow per plant at the least.

Thank you for that !
For anyone interested in grafting this is a good place to start

that grafting idea sounds wonderful, thanks

definitely gotta try that. I'd love to grow a few mother plants and have a ready menu of options i could clone from one Source plant...

That’s a really good idea ! Multi strain mother plant ! I just don’t know if it’s worth having a mother plant since you can veg for 4 months. You could take clones off of vegged plants or start need genetics each month !
I think I’d prefer to start new genetics each months then I’d have an elbow plus of that strain each month !
You could even have a top 4 strain list going in your garden at all times. Each vegging plant be a different strain. That way you can choose between 4 different strains each month.

But for each their own! That’s why theirs just about endless possibilities when it comes to cannabis growing.

Is there a specific size threshold for what's considered an immature plant?

Flower 2 plants in a 2x4 using an eight week strain,
Two plants in veg for 9 weeks(inludes rooting), 2 clones cut a week before flipping.

Actually I'd make a little secret box to keep more clones in, (you can keep them tiny for months in a humidity dome).

No a vegging plant can be any size plant as long as it does not show flowering pistils/buds. You could have 6 outdoor plants vegging in 100 gallon smart pots as long as only 2 went in to flower... kind of difficult lol

My theory is a plant is considered flowering when you switch the light cycle to 12/12 to induce flowering. Yes you could get away with a week or two and argue you were sexing the plants which they broadly go over in the vt.npr marijuana podcast.

That is why I grow exodus cheese. I harvest on day 52 after 12/12 and then there is about 8 days I have the flowering room available to do the drying in with all the climate controls in there.
When I start trimming the vegging plants can move in again for the next 52 day cycle, and the clones have been rooting for a week already.

Get some awesome potting mix and add some organic amendments. Dig a 10 gallon hole in the backyard then saturate with water then fill with soil mix. Get a potent mostly indica strain because you live far up north. Plant and feed organic teas. DO NOT TOP. When it gets 24 inches tall tie it over aka LST. Continue LST only pruning fan leaves that block out budding sites. It will keep it low to the ground and protect it from storms, thieves and frost because you can cover easily if you need to. It will give you a huge yield Bro. With that said i'm jealous because i'm behind enemy lines. PEACE

In Oregon it's considered flowering once there's an actual cluster of pistols formed.

If you can only have two flowering then divide your flowering time in two and that's how how long to wait between cycles. For outdoor you'd have to use light dep. Basically start a plant every 30 days and once the first one is ready to you'd start it flowering. 30 days lated the second plant. 30 days after that you'd start a third one flowering and harvest the first. After that you'd start a new plant, flip one to flower and harvest one every 30 days. How big or how long your veg would be would depend on what kind of yields you'd want and how much space and power you have available.

Have you considered Monster Cropping?
This plant will return a number of zips, judging from past grows I would say around a pound. If you do two of them it would be well over that.
20180529_085944 (2).jpg
I would take clones from two strains that are 21 days in flower, re-veg and let the training begin.
I vegged for 17 weeks but it takes awhile to transition back into veg, and I had clones from her sisters in the tent that had to finish before she could go in. Think I could have cut that time in about half had I had the tent ready.
Three weeks after taken from mother and finely put into solo from humidome.

Here she was during hormone change, 7 weeks since she was taken from her mother.

She was transplanted into this 10 gallon Smart Pot on 4/4, put the screen on and tied her down, got her ready to veg for three plus weeks.

Here she is at day 29 flower.

Howdy neighbor! Been pondering this exact same question. I can post the whole 3-tent SCROG cycle schedule i came up with after work if you’d like. It’s definitely right on the edge of legality, but I’m comfortable it would be worth the additional yield. It assumes the first four weeks of 12/12 could still be considered “immature.” A prominent weed lawyer advised me that the distinction between mature and immature may not hold up in court at all, which makes me think 2 questionable weeks (weeks 3 and 4 of 12/12 where there are noticeable - though immature by definition - flower clusters) probably aren’t worth stressing about. Also, have you read the language of s.16? If you’re found with 4 mature and 8 immature plants, it’s along the lines of a civil penalty and a 50 dollar ticket, MAYBE court diversion. So that would be the unlikely worst case scenario with this mostly law-abiding plan.

Basically, I’ll have two 5x10 flowering tents and a 4x8 veg tent. I’ll start 2 plants one month, and 2 plants of a different strain the next month. I use a dolly system I devised that holds my 25-gal smart pots and supports my SCROG screens, so I can just wheel the whole SCROG plant around. When the first two plants are big enough to go into 25-gal pots, I put them on the 2’x3’ dollies, which have wooden posts supporting an “inner frame” - also 2x3 - that holds the 1st stage SCROG netting. I start training these older two into this small inner screen, while the younger two veg in 2 gal and then 5 gal pots next to them. All of this takes place in the 4x8 tent. When the older two start significantly outgrowing the inner screens, I wheel them over to the first 5x10 tent, and install a 4’10” square screen over each inner frame (with crossbar for support/attachment). Then I train them into the large screens for a week before taking cuttings and switching to 12/12. The rest fills out in stretch.
Meanwhile, in the 4x8, I now have plenty of room to put the younger two plants on dollies and start scrogging them, and I am rooting the cuttings from the first two. After the oldest two plants have flowered for a month, the younger two are ready to move over to the second 5x10 tent and grow into their large screens for a week before flowering. At this point, with proper care the youngest clones should be ready to put in 25-gal pots. I take cuttings from the two I just moved to flower room, which I root at my neighbor’s house to keep my plant count at 6. When the first two plants are ready to harvest, the first two clones that have been vegging in the 4x8 should be ready to grow into their big screens and replace the two I just harvested.

I then move the youngest two clones over from my neighbor’s house, put them in 25-gals on the dollies, and the cycle continues.
I realize this is long winded and probably confusing, but this should allow a mostly law abiding Vermonter to harvest 2-3 pounds a month, assuming 1-1.5 lb’s per monster SCROG plant. Good luck man, July is just around the corner!

Reading over my own plan, only changes I would make are: take clones earlier to allow two weeks for rooting and four weeks for veg before potting up to 25 gallons... much more realistic.

And, I happen to be aware of a certain jack herer fast pheno that produces amazing, glistening sticky stinky dank with good yields in only seven weeks. Hard to believe, but it’s true. So I’ll run that as my first strain which means there’s only one week where someone could even conceivably claim you have four flowering girls. My other keeper pheno for this plan is a gorgeous 8-week somango, can benefit from 9

Hi Guys,
Interesting approaches. I'm currently building a clandestine garden and all ideas are food for further thought.

Here's my question. Don't most (if not all) Marijuana states also put a limit on how much dry bud you can hold. Isn't it just 1 oz in Vermont? Doesn't that create a problem for those trying to stay legal?
