Meat in the mix

Hello fellow RIU members. I'm going to see how much MJ likes a little flesh added to the compost. I know some of you will probably ask how I avoid maggots, well I compost in huge piles with a very large tractor. The pressure and heat is enough to kill off the unwanted organisms leaving only the good micro-organisms we want for plants. Manure also breaks down flesh a lot faster than plant material. An entire deer (150lbs) can dissolve in 2-3 weeks with enough moisture.

My compost mix is made from barn scrapings (manure, hay, dirt) mixed with animals that I have to dispose of for my rendering business (deer, cows, etc). The manure is from an area where only pregnant cows are keep so it's from healthy, un-medicated animals.

I composted the mix I will be using last year and it has had plenty of time to break down any unwanted bits of bone and hair. I'm only going to be adding perlite to help with drainage.

I have a small bagseed flowering in it right now that I started just over a month ago. She was vegged and LST'd under a single 42w cfl, that's why she's so small. The other little one in the small pot is more bagseed that I'm growing out as a test plant to find out how much fertilizer a plant can handle. I have added nothing but water and since my water is pumped straight from the ground with no filtration and I haven't even bothered to PH it yet.

I started germinated my White Castle and White Widow from Nirvana yesterday. I'll be growing 2 of each for a total of 4. My light is a 400w switchable (mh&hps) SS2 air-cooled hood with a 190cfm inline fan and carbon filter which is currently off in a 3x3x6.5' tent.

I do plan on using superthrive to help with transplanting and I have decided to go with Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz as my only fertilizer to give it a boost during flowering. I have had good luck with my compost outdoors although I have yet to complete a successful harvest because of unpredictable weather.

that's disgusting, but nonetheless.

composting meat is something totally different than regular compost. there are many dangerous bacteria that can be present, as i'm sure you're aware of.

meat will produce anaerobic bacteria, which will impede on the typical, aerobic conditions you are trying to achieve.

also, keep scavengers in mind.

edit: i hope i didn't come off as a dick, composting meat is achievable, yet at that scale i would imagine it to be very difficult. try looking into bokashi composting.

It's cool. A lot of people don't really understand how nature really works.

I can't complain about the results I've had yet nor the money I make off selling good fertilzer.

Yes it's disgusting but this is nature at work.

oh, so you sell this stuff and are now planning on using it on mj? okay...

what exactly do you do with the deer and cows to where they end up as compost?

I dont think its disgusting at all, really cool to me. Funny think is i was just thinking if "flesh and blood" could help in the growing process and then i see this post. +rep

damn bro nice. i just read your thread and get goosebumps from this from what i hear its an odd mix for dirt but i've seen all the results and your doing something/everything right.
now your indoor just looks sick i cant wait to see your seeds from online grow.

Thanks! I'm just applying what I know as a farmer towards growing a plant. It's not rocket science as some of these guys make it look. If you now your basics than that's all you need to grow a healthy plant.

I will admit that I think that nature is just a baseline we can work off of and improve upon. (Why else would farmers shoot up cows with steroids?)

so you think a cow shot up with steroids is an improvement on nature?

it's definitely not an improvement in quality.

Well since you're a vegetarian you won't know what I'm talking about but I could guarantee no one could tell the difference between the two in a steakhouse.

Here's my fan and filter, I put the filter on for the pic. I built the fan speed regulator out of a 6w light dimmer and an extension cord. Since the fans mounted to the concrete I don't have to worry about any vibration hums. I am pulling the air from the hood since it's 60F in my basement year round and it keeps it a nice 70-75F in the tent with lights on. I also wired the fan and light to the same circuit in the house so if one goes, they both go.

I mounted it there so if I choose I can vent the air outside in the summer. I won't in the winter because I don't want any back drafts when my fan is off. That could freeze my girls or make my light explode in the morning when it turns on.

so then no difference from the two (i assume you mean one that was pumped with steroids and one that wasn't), no difference, no improvement, simply put.
me being a vegetarian has no influence on what i know and what i don't know.

Yes basically. Just because you add some thing to either a plant or an animal to get more out of it doesn't necessarily make it less quality, just more of it. That's why I plan of using the Beastie Bloomz during flowering.

So a quick update, all four seeds have cracked there shell today. I'll put them in cups in the morning and get them under a light. I have a homemade veg pod equipped with a 12v computer fan and lined in mylar.

The pod has a 42w CFL Ecobulb 6500k that's suppose to be equal to 200w. Later on I will be moving my 4 higher quality plants to the tent and putting the bagseed under CFL's to finish flowering.

I plant on treating the WW and WC with extra care so they'll get the most attention.

I'll post up pics of the pod later.

I CALL BULLSHIT!

As a steakhouse chef and long time grower I will tell you one thing for certain: WE CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE! Your statement displays such ignorance that it is almost shameful. Are you going to try to tell me that crappy commercial beef tastes the same as wagyu or kobe?... because you would be so WRONG and the world agrees. You must be a McDonalds fan... The grass fed beef I buy from the farmer's market taste way more gamey than commercial BS beef. Really?

funny.
i hope you realize i'm not trying to fight with you, but i just don't agree with fucking with an animals hormonal levels with HGPs just to make it bigger, and yeah you can correlate some organic based fertilizer with HGPs but you know what they say about correlation ;p

like using inorganic fertilizers, HGPs can be used incorrectly and cause harm to the recieving organism, and reduce quality.
and i'm not a vegetarian because i think eating meat is wrong, i'm a vegetarian because of shit like this.

edit: i forgot to mention that i due understand both sides of the HGP argument, as far as research has gone. in fact, if i wanted to i could argue for the HGP (when used properly) side quite easily. but again, they are often abused.
