Pulling the trigger on one of these soon and wondering if anyone has anything to say about either.

Spider Farmer, and Mars Hydro, are both part of the same company.I thought spider farmer was the one prone to releasing all the magic smoke? Karma is right about MG, lots of people have them, have seen zero complaints. No personal experience, full disclosure.
So, I went with the MedicGrow 8. Super bright and fits just barely in a 4x4.Pulling the trigger on one of these soon and wondering if anyone has anything to say about either.

thinking about getting the mg8 for my 4x4 today. by ceiling mounted fan, do you mean just one at the top pointed at the light or what? So, I went with the MedicGrow 8. Super bright and fits just barely in a 4x4.
The MG8 uses Samsung LM301Z's and there's a real heat difference from my LM301B fixture.
The center bar gets up to about 130F at 100% and the light bars vary wildly but the hottest I've recorded was 140F. Most run 125F-135F.
I've compensated with a ceiling mounted fan and by using the highest vent fan settings.
All in all I'm really impressed with the light readings I've taken and with the construction on the MG8.
It's a lot of light for $470
I have a fan blowing across the power supply at the center of the fixture from above. I heard that keeping it cooler could extend the life. Maybe...I dunno. The 8 just fits a 4x4 and I haven't run mine above 80% so far. The readings are solid there and the heat problem is reduced. Summer in south Florida makes for a hot grow. BTW, I came across a nearly new Mars FC8000 right after I bought the MG8. I bought it. It's a cooler light and the separate power supply lets me put it near the exhaust. I'm impressed by both but the Mars is also easier to hang so I have to say it's the best if you don't judge on price.thinking about getting the mg8 for my 4x4 today. by ceiling mounted fan, do you mean just one at the top pointed at the light or what?
Stamping a letter code on your light doesn’t make it fire resistant. Our lights has CE and ETL certificate and meet the safety standards

Theres been a few of these, both mars and other, usually with these waterproof quick connectors. Ive never had it with any diy connectors, even AliB/china, but ive had brunt out china wagos.Stamping a letter code on your light doesn’t make it fire resistant.
You want proof? Okay…

Sounds like you've done several loops with these already. Do you grow where managing heat is ever a problem? Did you notice any differences in the lights involving heat?I won the Medic Fold 8 in a contest.........I have been using the Gavita’s led’s. Comparatively, the Medic is producing around 15% less weight than the Gavita. Still, it’s a nice item for the money but if yield is of any concern, go with a stronger light
man that is brutal because I really want a safe LED light. It felt so good getting away from HID because of bulb temps being a fire hazard, i'm not always home and a connector burning up like that is a huge concernTheres been a few of these, both mars and other, usually with these waterproof quick connectors. I always rec build your own, then you know the parts that go inside and can decide yourself. I dont mind china boards, especially ran soft, but driver and connectors/wagos i get locally where i trust the gear. I keep on saying it: the best part is the sense of achievement when you first turn on your lighting project, followed by the first time you beat your yield record.man that is brutal because I really want a safe LED light. Used a Mars for 3 yrs nonstop. No fires, not so much as added heat to my roomMedic Grow all the way.
Mars Hydro has quality control issues that could start a fire.
I’m glad to hear that yours gave you no issues.Used a Mars for 3 yrs nonstop. No fires, not so much as added heat to my room
That can literally be said of ANY brand lightI’m glad to hear that yours gave you no issues.
There have been documented cases of Mars Hydro LED’s starting small fires in the past.
Luckily, nobody’s house burned down.
Okay, if that’s true, show me an example, like the one I posted above of a Mars Hydro light catching on fire. That can literally be said of ANY brand light
