I just finished up a grow with the Smart 8. It uses the same 240v plug and adapter. I didn't run into any issues with it other than the plug being awkward to work with since I use a surge strip inside my tent. It gets unwieldy. If the light could pull more power than 120v could handle, it would be a fire risk. I don't think that is an issue here though. That would be more like trying to run an electric dryer with an adapter on 120v.
I'm pretty sure that they defaulted to the 240v plug because they are targeting commercial growers who will be running 240v for lights due to having many more of them.
