Hi all!! Brand new to posting but figured I would add some information I could never locate in the past. All the good info on the site I need to pass something on. So I purchased a few mega gardens in the past with an attempt of doing side by sides but I always ended up with roots wrapping together and small yields so I sold all but one. This year I was limited on space and bought a 2x2x4 tent and a 600 watt LED and switched to 1200watt LED right before switch. This grow consisted of 9 auto flowers (cross of super bud and purple passion home made seeds and 3 other strain singles) in 6x6 grow blocks (1 plant is in 4x4 grow block to avoid filters and help me differentiate a special fast strain. Air intake is a simple fan for inner tent and outtake exhaust fan, no filter I enjoy the smell .. veg nutrition from general hydroponic 2 part, cal-mag, rhino stalk, and orca. Flower nutrition, general hydroponic duo, big bud, bud candy, heavy brick molasses and orca in first 5 weeks of flower, and switched bud candy/big bud to overdrive for the following week. Last week I had flush strawberries agent with overdrive added and last 3 days just water last day darkness. I used hydroguard practically the entire time with a constant PH of 6 checked daily, my ppm did range depending on stage of growth,I yielded almost 7 oz out of this of amazing buds in. 2x2
I posted this because I had so many issues trying this in the past but finally figured it out, you cannot allow large exposed roots, you must using something to cover the top of the blocks, and you must change AND clean the system bi-weekly no exceptions. This Could work with photoperiods as well but what I did find in the past is if you let them veg for too long the roots take over and strangle each other (I have read threads that say it isn’t possible but I watched many failures from it).I ran my system 3 hours off 1 hour on but you can play with this a little depending on how much electricity you can handle. Do not start right in the 6x6 I used 3x3 and then cut out a space on the 6x6 to transplant when I saw roots touch the bottom. Always soak rock wool Atleast a day before putting seeds in and CHECK PH!! When changing nutrients or cleaning I always kept a tray to set plants on and ran straight water for about 6 hours before adding nutrients blend. Though this was a fun learning experience for me it did not compete with DWC yields but it was fun and I think a great way to utilize a small space and really start understanding hydroponics and nutrition cycles.
