Hydroponics system using rain gutters and hydroton, seeds starting in Jiffy's
Vegetative stage: 360 watts of mixed cfl and floros in custom reflector
Flowering over 2x - 600 watt HPS

Starting pictures as of last night:




They are sitting in a standard tray, with the drain flat installed. Starting their life in a glass of distilled water, sitting on top of a regular heating mat. The water sat out for the usual day or so to cleanse itself and reach a normal temp.

The Jiffy's you see in there have been pre-soaked, PH balanced, and contain the 'per directions' amount of Nutri Boost.

I'm using the 4th cup for my temp gage so I can maintain an accurate reading.

I placed 5 of each seed (6 Sour Cream) into the cups late last night.

Results as of this afternoon (Approx 18 hrs after placing into water)

The Arjan's Haze shows cracks in the colored coating, but no roots yet
The Sour Cream has 3 seeds that have split and about an 1/8" is showing
The Cannatonic shows some splitting, but no roots yet

All of them sank as of this morning, with a little tap on the tops.




The "Out temp" is the current water temp. 70' seems pretty good to me. (ignore time, didn't set it)

Will post some more if I see at least 1/4" of roots by tonight. I won't be using paper towels, they will be going straight into the Jiffy's I prepared over the past few days.

Update for this morning...



Everything seems happy, temps didn't exceed 72.5' F overnight. So far so good.



Cannatonic have all cracked, about 1/8" for most roots



Sour Cream have all cracked except 1, tap root not very long yet



Arjan's Haze has 2 fully cracked and showing white, the others haven't yet. Perhaps from the colored coating?

All except 3 of Arjan's Haze have made their way into Jiffy's

Still using a 1L spray bottle with a mix of Nutri Boost. Poked standard holes into the Jiffy's and then sprayed them down. They feel damp, but not wet.

Currently temps are hitting about 75' so I adjusted it back a little so they didn't get too warm.

With the Arjan's haze I thought maybe the coating was preventing water from getting in. So when I planted the others I scraped off the coating and placed them back into water. Hoping to plant them tomorrow after work. As of this time it's been just under 48 hours since I first put them into water.

As of today we had our first sign of roots out of the bottoms of the Jiffy's
For those of you counting, that is about 4 days from the day I put them into water

Now they look like this







So far everything is looking pretty good. Those hydroton cubes soaked in the same Nutri Boost solution, currently running at 1/2 strength.

Almost all the Jiffy's had about 1/4" of roots out of the bottom. 2 of the Arjan's haze didn't crack. I used a scalpel to run along the seam of the seed, it seemed to help. Time will tell if they sprout or not.

One of the Arjan's haze has already popped up above the Jiffy, that little girl seems to have taken the lead.

Current PH is between 5.5 and 6.0

Pictures as of tonight... Still in the domes, thinking I should take it off soon? Not really too sure when to remove the dome.
