Hi there,
I currently use a couple of CFL's as an experimental grow, and well things have gone well enough to consider investing in some more powerful lamps that will bring a higher yield......:weed:

I have a choice from a local supplier

http://www.lampreplacements.com.au/Productlist.phtml/searchphrase=400w

which would i go for a HPS? or a mecury vapor....... and is HID different to these????

cheers

also i'll still use the CFL's for vegging so this is really just for BIG BUDS:-P

HPS is the choice for you. It has to appropriate spectrum for flowering (BIG BUDS :weed:) HID = high intensity discharge.... Dont get the MV

Go for HPS if the light is for flowering, or metal halide if it is for vegging. Don't bother with mercury vapor, as they aren't as efficient.

HID stands for high intensity discharge. All the lights you mentioned are HIDs, just different types.

For future refrence, use that big ol' search button before you post a thread. You will actually find what you want quicker, and it leaves more space and less repitition on the forums. good luck with the grow

So I have a simply and possibly dumb question. I am about to invest in some ballast for metal halide bulbs. Will HPS bulbs just fit right in or no?
