I went through two lids already and tired of dealing with it, maybe im just thinking inside the box. I was about to cut the top of the netpot off and trace it on to the lid. then cut it out, does any one have any other methods, i seen the tab method, but i rather just let the pot fall in and stop on the lip. Whats everyones method?

hole saw works well. They get expensive the bigger you go.

If you want to get creative try to find something cheap, round and metal that is the right size. NO COPPER (coper give off posionous gas when heated). Heat it up on the stove and you have a big hot cookie cutter. works only for plastic.

muffler strap material at the hardware store comes to mind since it is pretty pliable and easy to bolt on re-enforcements to hold its shape and make a handle. Make it like a big brand. RAWHIDE.

You can do amazing things with a hot stove and metal tools, built my whole veg box using a large knife, a 1/2" punch, and a gas stove!

Thanks guys, i went down to homedepot n the cheapest hole cutter there was like 37 bucks lol i guess i might not have any other choice. ill prolly try the ideas you guys gave me. Thanks again ! :-)

dude if you got 37 dollars buy it, use it to cut your 10 or whatever holes and return it...I work at home depot we always joke about our "free" rental service, because they will return almost anything. In fact funny story, one of the original owners bernie was doing a store walk with a manager once and an old lady came in trying to return a set of tires that she swore she bought at home depot (Home depot doesn't sell auto tires) anyways long story short bernie asked the manager what the phone call he recieved was all about. He told Bernie and Bernie told him to return the tires to please the customer so that the customer would return for life...haha good old home depot stories...

i traced the outside of the net pot then i got something similar in size but a lil smaller and i made another circle... so i have one inside the other and when you make your cut make sure its in between there ... some where in there is the perfect size... a hole saw for me didnt work cuz i could use the 3 inch but my net pots would fall thru with only a little wieght... (tested on a peice of wood) so i used my razor blade to make a + within the smaller circle and then cut out the tabs i made... then i went and got a dremal... ( i think much better to buy then hole saw, way more uses.. more time but oh well.) and then just sanded it more and more till the net pots fit nice and snug... the net pots i have fit so good i feel it snap it place... if you have any spots that u cut a little to much on use some foil tape to fill it in......

hope that helps...

I made some big screw ups cutting holes before I figured this out, and perfect ever since. (only works with plastic tote lids)

Trace the top of the net pot on top of the lid you'll be making a hole in. use 2 nickels or something to measure a standard distance from the inside of the circle, and make marks that same distance around the inside so you can draw another, slightly smaller, and uniform circle. When you trace this smaller circle, use an exacto knife; not heated or anything, just push barely hard enough that it breaks the surface of the lid; this is what you want.

after tracing the smaller circle, do the + sign like mentioned before, but when making it, push all the way through the lid. After you make it, the 4 tabs that now make up the inner circle will pop right off because once the plastic has that top cut, it breaks off easy.

Hope this helps

that's where I got mine, and for the same purpose (mine is in PVC though) but the one I bought is the 13 piece one, was only $4  plus i got a hygrometer when I was there.
yeah i got the same one u showed on the site from there.. for the same price... and the 3 inch cutter is to big for me to use for my 3inch net pots... so i could use a 2 inch .. but y when u still got to cut it all out... so i got a dremal when i went back... i was able to make the holes with it no problem and then was able to use it to help rough up smooth surface in dvc to glue the airstones... used it to make a hole in glass bottle to make home made glass bong... oh man i have used it so much... the hole saw... once to test the 3 inch hole... thats it.. havnt thought about since....
