MH / HPS Light Combo for Auto

Guys,

I've been reading about autostrains so decided to give it a try. I have both MH and HPS bulbs.

I was thinking of going with 600W MH and 600W HPS at the same time for the first 4 weeks, then changing the MH out to an HPS and going with 2 x 600W HPS for the last 8 weeks.

What do you think? I figure a bit of blue light for the first 4 weeks will help the veg stage.

Need to know square footage of growing space and number of plants.

5 square foot - maybe 6 or 8 plants.

I don't pay for electricity so can throw as much light at them as I want. I even have 2 x 300W 6400k CFL's I could throw in.

I ran a thousand watt metal halide for the first 5 weeks. Then I switched over to HPS. I have 8 square feet in a thousand Watts was overkill. My next run I'm going to drop down to 600 watt.

I run ¾ MH, ¼ HSP for the first three weeks. Then all HPS...

How did you know it was overkill? Did you use a PAR meter to measure light?

I've just ordered one, so I'll take some measurements.
