MH light failed QUESTION about HPS temp. use

Hi All,

Today I woke up and my 400 watt MH light didn't go on. It was an hour and a half after the on-time so I know it's not a warm up issue. It had a faint glow... but no real light.

I called the vendor and they are shipping me a replacement bulb overnight (as the MH was only used for 23 days before it gave out). They ship UPS so I won't get the bulb until tomorrow afternoon around 4:00pm.

I put in the HPS bulb as a temporary solution. Will this be ok until tomorrow afternoon.... or should I move them under my 3, 100 watt CFLs instead?

My plants are 24 days old and growing in hempy style hydo setup (Coco, Perlite).

Thanks :peace:

that really sux, i just bought a similar set up, MH and HPS ballast, and i am currently running the MH for the last week or so, I hope I dont run into the same problem at day 23 or near, thanks for the heads up, but if i did, I agree with those who say to throw the HPS in, everything I have seen says you can use it to go straight thru veg to flower anyway so it cant hurt for a day... and I hate cfls lol, i dont get em... but I am a newb who never tried em...

CFLS are good lights, there not as good as HIDs, but they requier a lot less attenction as well. I use both lighting systems in my grows, depending on stage of growth and space.

using both is probably the best, i should do that, and i admit i will have to learn more about these cfls as i hear seasoned growers, whos journals i follow (green man!) use them to great success. Props... I am intregied

Hey all,

Thanks for the answers.... I feel better knowing my babies should be fine under the HPS for a day and a half and I don't have to worry about moving my CFLs... which are currently on some new sprouting babies.

Well... it's not suppose to happen.... as I understand it... the bulb should have lasted a good year, which is why the vendor (HTG) is shipping me a replacement for it at no charge.

Of course... shit happens.... so this is my lesson learned.... ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP BULB

I the same, being running for 6 months both bulb no problems, so I think you where just unlucky. It's really handy that you can use the HPS in the same ballest, means I / You always have a spare if one breaks. It's also worth keeping an old bulb (One which is still working but not bright enough to keep on using full time).
