BRO MH IS IT LET ME EXPLAIN, Lumens are measured 12in off top of canopy and 1 mh 400w is about 40,000 lumens. now if i move the light 6in away from top of canopy now lumens are 80,000.Now lets talk cfl's ok 1 bulb 2500 lumens so u need 16 cfl's to put out what 1 mh bulb puts out at 12in and 32 cfl's if at 6in with mh bulb and now think how hot those 16-32 cfl's are to 1 mh believe it or not mh is cooler and the growth is much more productive my grow room dropped 8+ degrease when i switched my light set up to mh/hps and plants 3 weeks in to flower and the hps for flr kicks ass!!

This should help.
Lmao! That's good

But seriously, IMHO MH is isn't worth it for veg unless you're growing a bunch of plants. Like 8. CFL's work fine with fewer complications. The main thing is to have an HPS or CMH (ceramic metal halide) for flower.

Another argument that many people don't know about is that if you use a MH all of the way through, you will yield about 15% less, but the buds will be more potent and trich covered. If you're growing for yourself this might be a good option.

The option I recommend most of all (although I admit I have no experience with these) is using a CMH. I've done extensive research on these and they are truly the undiscovered gem of the marijuana growing world. They throw less heat which makes temperature control a non-issue and they have such a good spectrum that they have more blue light than a MH as well as more red light than an HPS.
To use a CMH you need either a 250 or 400 watt HPS MAGNETIC ballast and the bulb which costs about 50 bucks.

...decisions decisions

i say CFL's, you'll save on the electric and you can have it literally 2" from the top of the plant, making your baby bushy as hell.

HPS is a waste of money in the early seedling stages as lumens are lost with the distance you place the light at, and due to them not being able to be close to the plant your just losing soo much of its potential and lowering its life span, so save that for the flowering or at least till there 2 weeks.

CFL till the bitch is bushy as hell then start that HPS and you'll be shocked with the results.

thats what i done on my last grow cfl then hps and i got some wicked busy plants and a very nice yield, just thought maybe that the MH would make em even more bushy? lol

this current crop ive used hps to veg cause i was only borrowing the cfl b4 and my plants aint nowhere near as bushy.

MH im sure will do a perfect job aswell, its meant for vegging right?
thats what i thought, it has more blue light spectrum or some jargon like that same as a blue light cfl, i dont no the technical ins n outs but im shore its sumfin like that lol
