Bought a brand new 600 Mh for my maxi bright pro select ballast and it won't ignite it does have an led diagnostic feature what flashes a certain amount of times to indicate a specific fault now I've counted the continuous flashes over 4 seconds as it says in the instructions but it doesn't correspond to any faults there's 6 flashes in 4 seconds then a pause then again but it only goes up to 5 flashes on the instructions now I've tried other old bulbs and they work straight away, if there's a problem with the bulb it flashes once every 4 seconds and the bulb is brand new no visible damage a bit puzzled really? Anyone any ideas

some of these lights are not easy start . your using a digital ballast right and it wont strike light up . this bulb ma be made for magnetic ballasts only . some digital ballasts will light them . but yours wont .

Huh, I know that when i shut my Mh off I need to wait a few minutes before turning it back on or it wont turn on. IM not the science behind it though.

i read that both mh and hps bulbs need 15mins cool down time before lighting back up...it might be a feature to prevent this ...my ballast is a cheapy and dose not have that...im nobody with a brain and this is what i would think to that cheers! and as far as what happen to home boy i cannot say sry for the lost i guess my cheap mh had a small ball bearing i didnt know wtf cause it was my first but it ended up needing to land in a small dent or hole and when screwing in the bulb the dent/hole would but on the top and u could not land in it screwed all the way in and had to back out cause i didnt know wtf

Well is the bulb the problem or not because I've checked the lamp all wires, ballast is working fine don't understand why it's not firing

OK. The buls more then likely is good . its your ballast. I know your hps work. Won't light the my. Some ballasts. No matter how much they don't cost won't light a my bulb. When you shop for a my. Make sure it says easy start . you know the very bright flicker you see when its trying to light. Its gas inside the bulb if you will trying to ignite . your ballast is not putting enough juice to strike it. This is a VERY common problem . so just take the bulb back. It's best to use magnetic ballast with my . magnetic ballast will work for any bulb. In case you don't know what a magnetic is . its those super heavy ballasts . also so you know never dim a my bulb it will greatly shorten . the bulb should last about 9 months running 24/7 dimming it could burn out in 2 weeks from experience . burned up a 220 dollar bulb this way. Hope I helped

So your telling me this £130 digital ballast won't spark a mh when it's meant to do both I don't believe that what so ever, I'm sending the bulb back and going to try another brand

Also check the orientation of the bulb. Some are vertical others are horizontal some are both.

Is it a conversation bulb. I blew a conversation bulb because I had it dimmed or should I say I was using a 1000w ballast dimmed to 600w , the conversation bulb was 600w blew that mother fucker to hell .

Those. Ceap ballasts will over strike the bulb for start up explode a bulb for sure. But some electronic ballasts u can do that solid tek for example. Throw a 600 into a thousand watt. Ballast as long its on the 600 no issues . Solis tek also says its safe. I hear a lot of storied people exploding bulbs and taking out there expensive hood at the same time lmao. And if one of those ele tronic ballast pop holy shit your ears will hurt for a week.

It's not a cheap ballast. But damn I'm glad it didn't blow up. That would have been hard to explain. lol
I run a 600w hortilux eye on the 1000w ballast ,dimmed of course.
