Mice U gotta B Kiddin

Hey all, ive batteled all sorts of bugs before , but not this one ........this little kritter has made his home in my pot , ive flooded the hole & filled it back in , but next morn its dug out again, so again a good flooding & no movement, filled it in tightly , but again , it was dug out, so i set traps , nope not interested!!
I dont want to pour any chemical down the hole , in case the plant takes it up ,
Anybody else come across this before ??............& if so how did U deal with it............of maybe U have an idea that may help me rid , this little rodent..........cheers

Wow thats pretty crazy, first time ive seen that!

Where I live the mice eat the branches or the whole damn plant. Can you put it in some kind of tub full of water and let the plant totally submerge? Should flush what ever it is out or kill it.

Buy a cat. Name it Dr McJiggly.

I have never see this before.

I've seen holes like that in my compost bin. For me. It was mice. I put a half dozen traps in it. And each day I'd catch at least one.

Google Bucket trap and set one up right next to your pot. Peanut butter works best for most critters. I suggest water filled as well.

I would just set some glue pads around the opening of the hole....I've had the clever gopher a few times....but never a rodent decide to make my smart pot it's new place.....if that doesn't work a stick of dynamite when you know he's home should do the trick.....GL

You could also set a trap in a way that forces it to walk across it to enter and or exit the whole....

I live in Northern California and this year we have huge rodent infestation. Have inquired locally and it seems everyone has the problem. People are saying this is due to the large amount of rain last year.
I grow outdoors in 20, 25, and 45 gallon fabric smartpots. When a gopher ate entire root system on one i purchased gopher wire ( was lucky to find a roll at a local garage sale for $10!). Cut into squares and put under each pot. There are so many holes in ground ( first time in 20 years this has never happened before) that i discovered we have rodents ( mice and rats) along with gophers. My Quantum Kush showed a hole dug out from the top of pot. Stuck a stick in hole it went down a half a foot. Gophers dont enter from top but rodents do. Filled up hole but next day same thing.
One of my smartpots did not have the square of gopher wire underneath and a gopher ate every root, chewed a perfectly round hole through bottom of pot ( saw when i pulled plant almost ready for harvest but looked odd.....all fan leaves turned brown.
I will always use gopher wire in future but the mice climb up and enter from top. Only one plant was invaded by a rodent but what can one do?
I grow enough plants so the loss doesnt affect me but this year i lost 4 good sized plants. Glue traps around or near the hole is only thing i can think of. Hard to place glue traps for fear of hurting ferel cats, peacock, or local resident fox. Not to mention deer and a goat that lives on the boulders near river.

you live next door to a golf course?

I live almost "off-the-grid". The closest neighbor moved in about a year ago with 2 horses. I had considered that the horse manure was a restaurant for rodents.

This is something i fear when i move my plants out to the barn in the next week or two. I feel like glue traps will be the best bet for you. My plants will be in a cabinet but that doesn't mean shit for those little bastards.
