micro ebb and flow unit

just a quick question i built my first micro ebb and flow unit today. i made it out of two stacked together 3 gallon rubber maid totes from lowes. anyway back to the question there is a lil standing water left over on the tray would that in anyway cause root rot or any other undesirable effects? or should i rig up some kinda nets under the net pots so the roots never touch the standing water?

My system does sort of the same thing and it hasn't been a problem at all. If you're concerned about root rot, make sure the water temp is less than 70 degrees. Welcome to RIU.
