You should really get a scope and use your trichomes, not pistils, as a gauge for when to harvest. Most every strain I've seen gets red or amber pistils LONG before it's ripe. This is not a good thing. Harvest when you have about 50% amber trichs and 50% milky.
And don't read all these BS posts about controlling what type of buzz you get by harvesting when they're all milky etc. It might seem more heady if you harvest early, ut it really isn't a pleasant hazy high, unless that's what the strain is. The effect you end up with is determined by genetics. You're not gonna get a good Sativa, hazy high from an Indica, just because you harvest earlier. All you'll get is diminished yeilds, and a bunch of psychoactive cannabinoids that aren't fully fucking developed. Take the plant when it's ripe, and you'll get the buzz the breeder intended when they made the strain. That's why you go with 50/50 milky to amber trichomes.
