milky to amber

hi ther folks iam on nearly the 12th week of flowering big bang i have 4 girls greenhouse seeds say 9 or 10 weeks till there done but there are some milky and some clear how long do use think till the start to turn amber or should i be worried iam new to growing

the estimated flowering time is calculated using SOG (sea of green) so if you arent training or anything then you should add a few weeks. keep checking trichs and dont worry so much..

You should really get a scope and use your trichomes, not pistils, as a gauge for when to harvest. Most every strain I've seen gets red or amber pistils LONG before it's ripe. This is not a good thing. Harvest when you have about 50% amber trichs and 50% milky.
And don't read all these BS posts about controlling what type of buzz you get by harvesting when they're all milky etc. It might seem more heady if you harvest early, ut it really isn't a pleasant hazy high, unless that's what the strain is. The effect you end up with is determined by genetics. You're not gonna get a good Sativa, hazy high from an Indica, just because you harvest earlier. All you'll get is diminished yeilds, and a bunch of psychoactive cannabinoids that aren't fully fucking developed. Take the plant when it's ripe, and you'll get the buzz the breeder intended when they made the strain. That's why you go with 50/50 milky to amber trichomes.

I would assume a grower would have already done a blind evaluation of various harvest tells that could be collated into a preference spreadsheet...I know I did years ago and still use it per my previous determinations....but I don't get on here and try to tell someone else why my preference better...it is what it is...just my preference and it didn't take much testing to determine it.....per strain....fun finding out too.....I read trics along with bud swell and receding of hairs in catagories that can shake out to be just what I want....

IT all depends on what you want to get the high, like head high if you harvest early. When you harvest at the right moment you get the natural high from the plant, like if its a indica or sariva plant. Personaly I like to harvest mine, when my trichs are milky and the hairs are brown. Harvesting early you will always have some trichs that are clear at the lower part of the plant. Always temember to check the trichs with a micro scope, you can get one at radio shack. Trichs aren't the be-all and end-all of determining whether a plant is ready for harvest. Many sativas, for example, don't turn amber...or if they do it's looong past the best time to harvest. I had a sativa last year that turned cloudy but no amber at all. I finally harvested after almost 3 months of flowering, and was a bit past the perfect time to pick, it was going downhill.

And amber is a sign of the breakdown of THC. Personally I would pick at the first sign on amber to avoid further degradation
