Minimize 12/12 stretch?

I was just about to say the no light trick, but for 36 hours, not three days. Go 24-36 hours of straight dark before 12/12 and the flowering response will happen faster and harder. I usually only do this with sativas since indies really don't stretch much if given plenty of light.

Any other opinions on this "no light trick?" Sounds like a really good idea from what ccodiane says.

Turn your grow lights off for three days before going 12/12 and your plants won't stretch
that's the craziest thing i've ever heard. deprive them of light which would make them stretch in order to keep them from stretching?

duh

geez....

people do give their plants 24 hours of darkness to rush the change to flowering, but i find that totally unnecessary.

3 days is "crazy", but twenty four really helps sativas to set buds without crazy stretching, in my personal experience. First read about it in high times, Arjans suggestion.

i'll give that a shot with one of mine that i know pretty well; one thing to note with sativas is alot of that stretched out part will often fill with bud...

Thats true, big beautiful long buds baby! I only used to use this indoors with sativas bot stopped fighting the system and grow my true sativas outside where they can do whatever they please.

I found an article on the internet that backs up what Kind Princess says about phosphate in that low phosphate level causes compact growth and higher levels, while highly beneficial to flowering, also promotes stretching.

I'll keep'em on the veg nutes until week 3 of flower. I'll still feed with Fox Farm Big Bloom (0.01-0.3-0.7) in order to provide the plant with trace amounts of phosphate during this period.
