Miracle Grow Soil For Plants?

I am using miracle grow moisture control soil that has plant food and slow release fertilizer in it to feed them for up to 3 months and miracle grow perlite in my pots. My plants were looking good til about a few days ago when some started looking not so good. Does the soil have too much fertilizer in it for seedlings about 2 weeks old or should I just go out and get another soil so I don't lose my plants? My seedlings are about 3-4 in tall.

Yea it can be too much. I used the miracle grow seed starter and that was ok. They really don't need any nutes for about 3 weeks so it might be a bit much for them right now. They will probably get through it but its hard to really tell without pics.

im using mg moisture control it works ok. you may get some nute burn at first but they should bounce right back. the bitch is using diff nutes with it

Miracle gro soil tends to be a very rushed and chemical soil, weed grows fast compared to other plants really so all the extra "nutes" in most miracle grow soil is usually too much starting off, also people tend to complain tha miracle grow is quite acidic with ph's around 8.0 where in soil you want about 6.5

also the time release fert may give u probs when feeding your plants later on, because all ur measurements are going to be skewed because you have to account for the already present ferts.

If you are planning to repot, i say get something organic even miracle gro organic will do u good, but fox farm ocean forst is the best

As for right now wait 2 more days if things begin to look worse all you can do is flush (use more water to drive out salts and extra ferts), u can't remove the plant from the soil because that will damage or even kill your root system

I use mg potting soil. And never had problems. I wait a month before i repot. And liquid seaweed w/ iron works well with it

So I should just flush them a lot with water for the next few days to drive all the extra nutrients out and then just water them a little more after that so keep it from building up again?

I used MGMC, and it fucked me royally. Just flushing may not do it. A lot of people do well with it, others don't do so well. This was my miserable experience, I couldn't fix it. Hope you have better luck.

You could probably start your seedlings without the fertilizer and once they start goin good throw in the MG fertilizer... As to soil pH, 8 is not acidic, that's slightly basic, but you're right on that you want 6.5-7 (slightly acidic, to neutral).

The problem with flushing soil with release ferts in it is this, watering releases the nutrients, so it would just give them more feeding with more water, to slow down feeding id think less watering would be better, at least until they can handle these nutrients, of course you dont want them to not get enough water either, catch 22.

Dont flush i think they will have a better chance if you water less often. I have used mg when i had to and it works fine for me, but you can water too much and the more you water the more nutes that come out

Hey there. I'm on my first grow, and used the standard Miracle Grow soil, and it's working wonderfully. I prepared it ahead of time, though. I would use 3 shovel-fulls of Miracle Grow soil to 2 shovels of sand. And, for every combined 5 shovel-fulls, I threw three handfuls of perilite into it. So, basically I have MG soil with tons of sand and tons of perilite... I did this for several reasons. First, Miracle Grow soil retains too much water for Marijuana from what I read. So, I added the sand to offset this effect. The perilite serves the same purpose, but the excessive amount I used is intended to lower the PH level enough for the MJ to thrive.

The plants love it. They took off right away, grew quickly, and are still strong. It is 1 month into my grow now, and I finally yesterday fertilized for the first time with an organic fish/seaweed based fertilizer. (The White Widows were showing some slight signs of nutrient deficiency.) My friends are amazed. They said, "You found the absolute perfect conditions for these!" And, get this: I'm only using t12 flourescent tubes. LMAO!

Yes, Miracle Grow soil has worked wonderfully.

to tell ya the truth miracle grow is about one of the worst soils to use for what your doing. the nutes they already have in there fuck up the ph. miracle grow has killed some of my plants

I use 5 parts mg to 1 part verm and 1 part perl and the plants do fine no water problem no ph problem my plants are going great at 4 wks flower. Ph now is about 6.2 i use ff nutes every other water.

And so the perpetual MG battle continues, light versus darkness. I won't say which is which.

Dont get me wrong there is much better shit to grow in i use it in a fix if i cant get fox farms or something. In the end it will grow it. Ive had good yields with it. Diff strokes for diff fokes. Use what you like unless you cant get it!

So you think maybe just like misting them for a few days should help or should I just repot them in new soil and larger containers so I dont have to repot them anytime soon? They're in 6in pots now.

Same here, I use MG organic, it's cheap and available. Mostly it's whatever you had your 1st good experience with. Most will keep using what they know works.

i dont mist b/c i used a 600w light and i think it has a better chance of getting burned. It is hard to underwater your plants. You can go 4, 5 maybe 6 days without water. When i water i get them drinched and then sometimes for small plants they may not need water for 5 days. From what ive expr you need to let them get dry then water. But im no pro. Best way to learn is trial and error. If you can dig your finger into the side of the pot and your soil is damp 2 inches down they dont need water.

Surprised no one uses scott potting soil. Just as available as miracle grow but with less of the ph problems. good luck tho.

I checked them this morning and some of them are looking slightly better, trying to find a cam for pics, but should I just let them dry out for a few days and they don't look better probably repot them in new soil/perlite mix? And its funny because a few of the plants in the soil setup I have now are really doing well so I'm just not sure whats going on.
