It is not at all about how reflective mirrors are, but how they reflect.

Mirror Reflection:
This occurs when the incident ray hits a smooth or glossy surface such as glass. The only time light will be reflected directly back to source is when the incident light is directly at right angles with the reflective surface. All other times the light will be returned in the opposite direction. That is called specular reflection. No matter how highly reflective the material may be it makes for a terrible reflective material for plant growing.

Diffuse Reflection:
This occurs when light strikes rough or uneven surfaces, these types of surface cause the rays of light to be scattered in many directions. That is what you want for growing.
This is interesting Brick.., so in line of thinking its the ultra smooth surface that is the problem.. sooo.., Following that line of thinking I could create diffused reflection simply by draping celophane over the mirror taught but not tight leaving a bit of slack for the fans to wave ???:-?

Yeah, another thread of people speaking from a position of inexperience.

Anybody who actually uses mirrors will tell you there is no problem
Everybody and their grandmother who has never used a mirror will talk about hot spots and so on.

If it was me I'd believe the people who actually have experience instead of e-parrots.
I gotta say people here are saying they use em and like em... gonna be interesting to see which wins out in my mind

Hey SS? Try to find a serious commercial grow that uses mirrors. There is a reason you dont see them in grow rooms much.

It's not even a win thing you know? They all work. Just some people have it in their head that they got to make everybody conform to something they heard.

Because they don't sell them in hydro stores? Because they are heavy? There are a lot of reasons you don't see them much.

Choosing the right surface for the walls of your grow room is very important, as up to 40% of your total yield comes from the edge, and the right wall surface can increase the amount of light those plants receive by up to 30%! ...,
Well hell Brick..,gotta say again.. if I had some of those +reps I'd have to give some to ya for the run down on surfaces.. Me bein a simple kinda better safe than sorry kinda guy is probably just going to do the right thing and go with mylar w/o doin all the light tests, including the mirror, just to cover my azz,. The reason no light tests are simple.., like many evolving grow rooms, mine is right now challenged to maximize all the lights I have while continuously upgrading to more. All the tests will ultimately tell me is " Get more Lights" lol Thx again

Now theres a great point.. I've been to 3 major med grows and not 1 mirror.. Lord knows they could afford em.

The best light reflective surface is a flat-white painted flat surface. There's documentation if you want to fact check.

Or, ask any professional photographer worth his salt.

Books for the most part. But I don't think google is bad, I think people who say stupid shit like Mirrors are really bad and then try to back it up with google are bad when instead you could just ask a person who actually uses mirrors about their experience.
Are you fucking kidding? Given a choice of googling documented scientific information OR listening to someone's anecdotal experience,
YOU say the 2nd choice is the answer, hands down??? WOOFFFF & good luck with that!

I know, it's hard for you to believe, not everything on the net or in books is true. Experience, can't be replaced. End of the day those without it know.
