as long as you have a high powered light, you dont really need to mirror/mylar/foil the walls. id say its more trouble than its worth.

flat white...not glossy and deff not mirrors...why not mirrors? because the light travels through the glas to hit the reflective stuff and then back through the glass to your plant...this mean that a mirror actually absorbs light.

Hi jsgrwn - i have seen this mentioned before (i think it was in some marijuana growing bible or book or something) but it isn't really true about mirrors absorbing light. I mean yes, everything absorbs light to some degree (except of course - light) but mirrors are one of the more perfect reflectors of light. The problem with using mirrors for growing is they can create hot spots if the angle of the mirror and bulb line up just right. If you want to see this for yourself, take a bright flashlight and shine it into a mirror and move the flashlight around until you are looking at the bulb through the mirror. Very bright isn't it? i wouldn't call that absorbing the light.

Sorry if it feels like i'm picking on you - i'm really not. i've just seen this fallacy repeated because of that book and for some reason it gets me uptight (time to take a smoke break!). anyway - a physics 101 book should clear up any doubt.

i think email468 said it best everything absorbs light, but the thing about most glass is that it is mass produced, imperfect and under the right magnification it is not very clear at all...the light when shined through it refracts.

Not to pick but why do you put mirrors on the floor? plants do not absorb light from the bottom of their leafs.

no worries on picking on me  i use them to reflect the light up so the under branches get plenty of light as well so not only is the top of the plant getting direct light so does the bottom.
