Haha U and Tom get into it v12.
I think it's easy to do with him.
His party cup entry is sweet though

I did enjoy, hell of a job Gum.hey folks!!! well here she is. It is about 1 cubic foot, and right under 1 sq ft. the bulb is a philips mastercolor ed17 100watt CMH putting out about 9000 lumens, and the ballast is also in the PC. my temps are now between 83 & 86 from the bottom to the top, respectfully, and I still have 1 or 2 tweaks to cool it off more. I wanted to show it off so fellow growers can see that it can be done, but I want to warn it was not the easiest task. I think a 50 or 70 watter would be doable for about anyone comfortable with building such.
Oh, the 130 watt CMH/ballast combo increased temps approximately 10 degrees over 104 actual watts of 6500k CFL that was in their prior. I have since changed fans which brought that down 3 degrees.
ENJOY!!!
thanks, what are temps like in your case? does your place have air conditioning? i didnt think about the eyes. luckily i left a part of the case frame and it blocks most of the light, but I will place a set of sunglasses in the case just in case i have to look at more of the light. That's just brilliant gum.
Cutting edge technology combined with awesome stealth. I'm totally jealous!
Those temps are awesome considering we are in the middle of summer too.
Just remember to wear shades every time you look in on the girls or that bulb will damage your eyes.
Happy growing dude
not sure i understand... do you mean can I have both CMH and CFL going? if so then no, i am gonna stay with the CMH only for now. i really dont have the space for more. if I could find like 1 long flouro about 20 watts to go all the way across the back wall i may pick it up and use it, but it would have to be skinny.I did enjoy, hell of a job Gum.
So when the temps drop you can have both going?
I mean when winter rolls around then this and your other cab could be running at the same time.not sure i understand... do you mean can I have both CMH and CFL going? if so then no, i am gonna stay with the CMH only for now. i really dont have the space for more. if I could find like 1 long flouro about 20 watts to go all the way across the back wall i may pick it up and use it, but it would have to be skinny.
Nah, I like it inside better, not as many changing variables! I may put together another pc withh a few cfls for a mom/clone rig, don't need a lot of room to do that, and keep it tied down good.I mean when winter rolls around then this and your other cab could be running at the same time.
I guess I should be glad I live in the US for the good ole central heating and air, it is a perk!Hey gum.
In UK we don't have AC in homes so temps fluctuate with local weather, that's why I use an adjustable power supply for the fans.
My room ambients have been as high as 82.6F recently and it was 10F higher at the top of the cab using 12v for the top exhaust and 9v for the 2 exhausts in the lower chamber.
There's a hot spot on the top of the cab directly above the bulb and I put a jug of water right on it which dropped it 1 degree. I could prolly have got another degree from putting ice in the water and maybe another from upping the 2 lower exhausts to 12v but the sound of whooshing air gets quite noticeable then.
I doubt there's much room for improvement on what I have so I still need to have the lights on through the night, but it can hit 90F ambients during the day while the plants sleep and even with the fans on it's 80+ in there which isn't ideal. I guess that's where AC pays dividends and I think your plants could show even better growth patterns than mine for that reason.
Right now my room is 72F and 58% humidity and I'm still using the same power settings as above. The cab is 77F right under the glass with 48% humidity after 3 hours of lights on.
I'm really blown away with what you've done there gum. I already gave you rep so I can't add any more but you really deserve it. Just take my word that the rewards for your efforts will be much more tangible that riu rep
If it doesn't compromise your ID then please publish where US growers can get that ballast and bulb combo, I know Xander is looking for something similar, although I agree with you that 70w is prolly a better marker for most folk on a budget.
Thanks tamjam, and thanks for the rep too. i am sure you can get that 250 in there. here is a link v12 posted to a high flow light filter https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=135524. lets you block the light on your exhaust intake ports without loosing a lot of air flow. that and some powerful fans to suck enough air over that 250 to keep it cooled off.well done gumball, top work with that mate so happy that its up n running.
im on a mission working on cooling my 250w in my small cab at the moment wish me luck!!!
i expect your gonna have a new thread started soon?
+rep to you my friend
your welcome.Great links gum. Thanks.
I may have to join the CMH club in the future
